Firstly off the bat...the food is good and the prices around 25 CHF for a unique cut of meat is also well worth going there. We got the groin steak which was really special and probably one of the better steaks I have had in CH.However, the customer journey to get to our dinner is pretty much one of the strangest dining experiences I have ever had. Including places I have been in South East Asia and Eastern Europe. So we go on a Tuesday, the restaurant isn't that packed and we site down at the table. After a while an older Asian man gives us a menu. While the people around us are served we were ignored for around 10 minutes. We then asked if we could order, but then were told that they wouldn't take our order as we didn't reserve a place and should of gone over to a small window to order. Why we were given menus wasn't quite clear. There was also no sign to tell us this. So my wife walked over to the window which had about 10 people lining up to buy takeout, meaning she needed to queue up. We were there to buy 30 CHF odd steaks so this was pretty frustrating. While my wife walked to the window with the menu the Asian man grabbed the menu out of my wives' hand and told her she didn't need it. She asked for it as she needed it to remember her order and he refused to give it back to her. My wife promptly forgot the order as she had to stand in line behind 10 people. Then she got up to the window and they didn't accept card, meaning she had to come back and get money and queue up again. For a place that charges 80 CHF for their most expensive steak this seems mental. My wife was then told they would call out her name and we would need to go get our 30 CHF steak ourselves. The people next who reserved a seat all got served at the table. We waited for around 30 minutes, I got bored and walked up asking where our food was and it had been ready for ages according to the chef and it was slowly going cold. They didn't call out my wives name and if they did we wouldn't of heard it as there was a live band playing. The kicker in all this was, while we were being treated worse then everyone sat around us because they picked up a phone and reserved while we thought we would take a punt on a new restaurant and sat there as our food got cold on the basis the restaurant was understaffed, the older Asian man spent 30 minutes drying one dish at a time. I swear he spent like 5 minutes drying a single spoon, it was hilarious. If I would of worked at that overstressed restaurant I think I would of pushed that man off the side of the Hinterhof. All in all I am confused, what did I just encouter? What is going on there? The people cooking and mean well and the food that the poor overworked stress can churn out is amazing for such a small space..but..wow I'm just confused...My question is....Does the older Asian guy even work there?
