Excellent food, excellent wine,great atmosphere, friendly people.Arrived in a very packed day, even if we did not had a reservation they gently offered seats at the bar, which we promptly accepted and were ready after a nice walk in the pedestrian area of mendrisio.We got a specialty of the day with some wine from Sicily. The way in which the manager has explained what we were being offered was just amazingly nice.Menu is outstanding, wine assortment incredible.This is a great place !
What a pleasant surprise to find this excellent and charming restaurant in Mendrissio. The wine selection was outstanding and fairly priced. The fish of the day -- Gilta (sp?), a Sea Breem type fish, which was prepared baked whole with artichokes -- was phenomenal. Last, the service was warm, professional and friendly. I highly recommend Atenaeo del Vino!
We have eaten here several times in the past but our most recent meal here was the best ever. Ravioli with a pumpkin filling sautéed in butter, sage and amaretti crumbs, grilled Irish beef, pasta with a wild boar ragu, great wines and excellent service, this is a jewel of a restaurant tucked away in a courtyard in the charming historic centre of Mendrisio. A tiny bit expensive, but worth it.
A family member recommended this restaurant to me while we were vacationing in the region. My girlfriend and I went for lunch and we could not have had a better experience. The waiter recommended the squid ink seafood pasta which was easily one of the best dishes I had during my trip (and I had many). Ingredients were very fresh. Portions were generous. Presentation/plating was picture worthy. Since we were on vacation, we ordered dessert. The zabayone (sp?) topped with seasonal fruit which was equally delicious. Combined with a bottle of champagne, it made for a perfect lunch. Their selection of wines is fantastic. All on display and organized by region. The staff's knowledge of them was equally impressive. We bought a bottle to take home with us since I doubt we'd be able to find it in the States. The ambiance is sophisticated but comfortable. Service is outstanding. The waiter checked in frequently and spoke very good English! I would strongly recommend this to anyone (traveling or not) who is looking for a delicious lunch or dinner.
The place is locate into the very calm pedestrian way in Mendrisio's center.You'll cross an innerCourtyard and then you'll get into a nice, familiar atmospheric place with marvellous and fresh food.The owner is an incredible talented sommelier and he's a great tastefor food as well.The kitchen serve fish, meat and traditional revisited cuisine.Wine selection is good.Prices are quiet expensive but the quality deserve it.Recommended!
Our favourite restaurant in the region with outstanding quality in food and service. The menu presents seasonal as well as greographical specialties and varies regularly. Check out the hundreds of wines and ask Mirko (the owner) for a little story about the chosen bottle. He will tell you everything about it as he has certainly visited the vineyard personally.
Our 2nd visit to this restaurant, in a quiet back street of Mendrisio, and really cannot fault it. The service, ambiance and food are all top quality. The maitre'd in particular - his depth of knowledge of the dishes, the ingredients providence etc are 2nd to none, and make the place a real pleasure to visit. The weather helped of course - a beautiful sunny early evening with views from the back garden into the high mountains around - it all made for a fantastic evening. The menu is extensive, the wines really top quality and mostly from the local vineyards. Has to be one of the best places I've eaten in for a long time, and would totally recommend it to all others.
Friendly and attentive service and in several languages, great food well presented and fresh, great wine selection, nothing is missing we had a great time and you can buy wine on site as well. worth a visit. The owner said the menu changes every three months so all dishes remain seasonal and you will never get bored of it.
