The chef used to work in a fine-dining restaurant in Belgium and has now taken over this mountain chalet. It shows! The menu is based on Swiss favourites, is kept simple but the quality is great. Careful, the restaurant is not accessible during the winter months when the road is closed.
We tried to reserve a table for 4, a Thursday evening. They had a group at noon, so they were overwhelmed and didn't want to serve anybody for the rest of the day... Well, an other swiss classic: great sites, wonderful locations, but terrible service and so expensive.We finally went the day after, for lunch. The restaurant was (and remained) half empty but they installed us in the cold veranda, despite our request to be inside. And we paid 90 CHF for a plate of cold cuts (food was good) and 6 glasses of local white wine... Honestly, they should choose another job, they don't have a clue....
On a hot and sunny day we went here for dinner with a group from my work. It's quite a drive up there - longer and narrow winding road yet full tarmac so no problems here. When you arrive you find a traditionally decorated building where you are warmly greeted by the owner. She looks after your every wish and serves fresh, local dishes and cheeses. Food is simple but very fresh made from local products. Here you find the peace and quiet and cool (altitude) to get away from the bustling and heated Montreux. The view on the lake is stunning and sunset beautiful. There are also a nice hike or two should you enjoy some exercise before or after eating.The place was quite busy with couples, so maybe best to make a reservation should you plan on going.Go here if you want some peace and quiet and are looking for some honest food and service in a beautiful setting.
This a casual atmosphere, with a friendly service and great food- same level as lots of highly-ranked restaurants. A great reward after a hike or walk.Everything is homemade (even the puff pastry in the wonderful mille-feuille-which is made the way it should be: filled with cream and fresh raspberries at the last minute) and the products are local, cooked in a simple but loving way (mushrooms, soups for instance). The waiter had a great sense of humour without becoming too familiar, and the chef's wife is very welcoming and friendly.
The Chalet Le Manoïre is situated on the Col de Jaman, above Montreux on the Riviera vaudoise, in Switzerland. You can get there by car or even better with the Rocher-de-Naye train (Jaman stop). The chalet used to house a dairy, until the farmers converted it into a restaurant. They serve traditional homemade dishes. Their fondues and cheese plates are very good. Go there early, have a walk on the surrounding mountains and stop at the Chalet for a nice fondue.
Tolles Essen. Das beste Mille Feuille, das ich je gegessen habe. Die Desserts waren so gut, dass wir am Ende jedes einzelne davon bestellt haben. Als Vegetarier war ich von der Auswahl überrascht. Croute au fromage, Croute au champignon und das Fondue ... sind einfach himmlisch.
Wir haben viermal nach dem Menü gefragt ... keine Reaktion. Sie rannten entweder mit einem Korb Brot oder einer Pfeffermühle hinein und hinaus oder ... warum nicht die andere Hand benutzen, um das Menü zu bringen? Wir wurden völlig ignoriert und haben so etwas noch nie erlebt. Wir gingen nach wenigen Minuten mit einem großen Gelächter weg. Können Sie sich vorstellen, dass wir etwas bestellt hätten? Es wäre dunkel gewesen, bevor wir hätten gehen können!
