Recently my friend and I visited this so-called cocktail bar, as advertised outside Bar Bocc. My friend ordered a Negroni (10 CHF) for himself, and a Pina Colada (13 CHF) for me as a surprise contract for me. But when the so-called Pina Colada arrived, it consisted of only rum, ice and a piece of mint leaf. Pina colada is one of my favorite cocktail drinks and while I'm not an expert on cocktails, I know that the BASIC ingredients should consist of a Pina Colada: 1. pineapple juice; 2. Coconut cream; and 3. Rum. The word pina is a Spanish word and it means pineapple. I was disappointed that this so-called cocktail bar does not add pineapple or coconut cream in the cocktail drink. I had a tiny sip of this drink and it tasted terrible, so I gave it back to the waitress and to the Barman and told them that this was not a proper Pina Colada, and that instead I had a Café Latte. Then came the cafe latte and it wasn't the normal coffee with frothy milk, as most people would expect it simply embroidered a shot of espresso with milk and water. When we were asked about the bill, we were told that the bill totaled 23 CHF for the two cocktail drinks, although I did not have the Pina Colada! I then explained the situation to Barman and told him that we should only be paid for the Negroni and Café Latté. This barman then acted aggressively and demanded that we have paid for both drinks. We then reluctantly made the payment of CHF 23 because my friend did not want to discuss this matter further with this Barman, as he did not want to listen to us. About half an hour later, I checked this situation and felt that I was treated unfairly by this Barman. Because I didn't want other tourists to fall into the trap of Bar Bocc, I contacted the local police (the Lugano police station is located near Bar Bocc) and two policemen went to Bar Bocc and asked them to reimburse me the difference between the Pina Colada and the Café Latté. This is because Bar Bocc had violated trading standards by selling beverages that were not according to the description or common understanding of what this product should be. To my surprise, Barmann said that he would not refund the difference as he was his version of pina colada (which consisted only of rum and ice) which should be a Pina Colada. The police then said that they could not pursue this matter further because we had already made the payment. The police advised us that if this kind of abuse was to happen again, customers should not pay the money, but the police will be in a stronger position to protect consumers. I therefore urge all tourists to exercise their consumer rights and make sure that you check with the waitress and barman about the ingredients of cocktail drinks or food before placing your order. Otherwise you'll be torn. None of the waiters or barmann could speak English (or that 's how they seemed) so if you try to get someone to translate your order for you and make sure that it is a good understanding of what you will get for your money. Or you should just go to another bar, as this Bocc bar serves terrible cocktails and customer service is really bad. The outdoor seating area leads to a large parking lot, although the bar has a wide view of the lake, your views are mostly blocked by the parked cars. The outdoor seating area is also full of smokers, so if you are a non-smoking smoker, then you will suffer from the cigarette smoke around you. I urge the management of Bar Bocc and the Lugano Consumer Council to immediately consider this matter, Bar Bocc is a shame for Lugano and it damages most people the perception of Switzerland, which is to be a fair and just country.
