"You go in to pick out the fish you want and had a brief chat about the preparation. We had an antipasto plate that was huge (and therefore quite expensive) and all fish (not my favorite) They don't tell you prices or write anything - similar to other restaurants in Salzburg - so be sure to ask if you don't want a surprise. Outdoor setaing and as with all of Europe, lots of smokers."

I agree with the previous reviewers. We like to eat at small local places off the main path, and we were the only ones who were not locals and therefore did not know how this place works. You go inside, pick out your fish and antipasti from the case, then sit down and wait for it to be prepared (there's only one way of preparation which is grilled with veggies). Not knowing this, it made for a little awkwardness at the start. We asked about a table and staff indicated we were free to take one so we did. And waited for menus or...anything. Finally someone came out to ask us if everything was okay, and it was explained how it all works. Went inside and ordered, came back out and sat down. We too were not offered some things that I saw on other tables. I asked for still water and instead got a jug of lukewarm water which was never refilled. Other tables got full baskets of bread, we got literally three pieces, also never refilled even after a waitress offered us more and we said yes. We had two small bowls of very fishy soup, some oily octopus, and chose branzino as our dinner with some additional shrimp. After a very long wait, the branzino arrived (with four shrimp) and it was delicious after my husband filleted the huge whole fish himself since the waiter never came back to do so like he did at the table next to us. Literally, he never came back to our table. He was certainly nice enough but we sat there forever wondering what the heck was going on and finally my husband went inside and found him and very politely asked for the check because we'd been there well over two hours and had somewhere else we needed to get to. The total price for the meal was A LOT more than we anticipated based on what the waiter had quoted us per person, so we too felt ripped off for what we got. My husband also did not appreciate the chef weirdly shouting "BYE BYE!" at him over the counter after the check was paid, and everyone turned to look at us. I mean, what the heck?? Overall it was a very strange experience that left us feeling unwelcome.

I was actually on a mission to buy wine, and "tripped" over Pescheria! I love the fact that it's all fish, and there is outside seating in a small garden area. My advice is,: don't go if it is to be a "rush" meal, and don't expect a menu!! You must order your wine with the waiter and then pick a table and go inside to look at the fish and accompaniments that are prepared daily and deliciously presented. Pick out what you would like, order a wine (I loved the sparking rose) and relax!! I thought it very exciting to enjoy a leisurely lunch solo in a small, rustic shopping area off the beaten path. My waiter was very knowledge and helped me with selections. I wound up going back for lunch or dinner 3 times that week!! It's the type of place that is a comfort zone for me.

This restaurant was recommended by our hotel. We hadn't booked but were found a table outside and waited for the menu. No menu! You choose from the fish on ice displayed inside. Pricing was a bit vague. We received a cold fish starter platter which was refreshing and tasty. The main course was absolutely delicious (rotbarsch) served with grilled vegetables. All good. Then we were encouraged to try a mixed platter of desserts. We could only fit a little more in so asked for very small portions. It was too much and the bill was way more than we anticipated. We enjoyed the evening as the food was good and we had convivial conversation with some people at the next table but the ordering and pricing system is a bit disconcerting.

Don't really know how to rate this one. Fair enough we arrived late Round 10pm but the restaurant advertises 10.30 closure. At first we were told we were late and the kitchen was closed. Then the nice waiter actually went and secured us a dinner albeit only with one sea bass dish on offer. So we had no choice but to take this one option. The dish itself was cooked quite nicely and was delicious, but you don't expect this from a restaurant of this calibre. Also my wine was served to me in my beer glass! OK this could have been a genuine mistake. But the staff were very friendly hence my 3 stars for their efficiency
