Only three minutes away from St. Stephen's Cathedral, yet off the beaten tourist tracks is this wonderful scenery. Service is provided by Roberto and his staff, who are simply excellent at providing for every wish. The food is easily among the best in the City (and in my view the best Italian restaurant in Vienna) and the live-piano player creates a relaxed atmosphere in which you can celebrate the delicious food. Whenever I travel to Vienna, I always take the chance to go to Il Melograno.

Delicious authentic Italian cuisine served in generous portions by the most forthcoming staff in all of Vienna. Get ready to not want to leave. Great selection of wines. You can't ask for a better dining experience. In short: go.P.S There is a separate smoking section of the restaurant, which doesn't disturb the non-smokers, but greatly appreciated by smokers.

At most very expensive restaurants you pay for the imaginative skills of the chef demonstrated in tiny beautiful dishes. Here they offer the very best produce, cooked simply to perfection. However the quantities proposed can be gross.Typical were the scampi. One kilo is offered at EUR 79.90 This is actually a fair price: prawns of this quality on the quayside would cost EUR 35 per kg. But who needs a whole kilo? Four pieces, more than would be served elsewhere, were a much more acceptable EUR 50. And they were, quite simply, the best grilled scampi we have had in decades.A couple at a nearby table had the duck: EUR99 for 2.5kg We joined in their giggles; it would have fed an extended family. The extraordinary pricing extends to the winelist. A half bottle of 2012 Grüner Veltliner was EUR59. But again, this was GV carried to a different level, 14.5% alcohol apart from other virtues. However €7.90 for a bottle of Evian (why Evian in an Italian restaurant in Austria)? is out of order. The menu and winelist are both online. I suggest careful study - especially if dining as a couple – beforehand. Service is enthusiastic and friendly.

When we decided to have a lunch at Il Melograno it took time for finding its place but it's worth it. Live piano music, very delicious burrata, pastas and meats with quality Italian vines..And of course its ambiance and service quality..a top quality balsamico was on the table. Shortly, everything was perfect. My papardelle as an entry was very salty and I reduced one bullet of my evaluation for this reason.I can easily say that this is the best Italian in Vienna and I strongly recommend this restaurant.

Absolutely great! Hidden in a very quiet street not far from the shopping streets. Smoking area available.

This was a great surprise. I had good dinners before in Vienna, but had never been to Il Melograno. I was invited after a business meeting with the promise "This is really good" If that is being told by an Italian then you can think two things, either he finds everything Italian good or he is impressed too. So we go. On entering our coats are being taken, we get a nice table and the first thing I see: much space between the tables. You can talk and not be overheard by the entire place. Then the menu; not a big book but a small selection but sufficient variation. We ate: Carpaccio di Polpo: Amazing. very well prepared, good balance in taste, no chewing gum, just delicious. Main course: Fish in salt-crust. Same here, very delicate taste, and for the three of us, a whole series of small side dishes in the middle of the table. All very nice, but the one that trumped (sorry for the word) everything was a potato puree with black truffle. Smooth as velvet and delicate and balanced. Sometimes truffle can blow away everything else, but here ahh. We could not do anything else than ordering another bowl of the puree. No desert. We stopped at the high of the evening. Just a coffee and a small digestif and then, thinking "When can I find a excuse to go to Vienna. and Il Melograno again"?

It's located in a very cost street! The menu is short but very nice and everything is incredibly fresh. The waiters are pleasant and good. The past was great!
