When you go to a restaurant for the first time and you are met with a broad smile and enthusiastic welcome, your trepidations are set at ease. That was my experience at the Angkor Restaurant, Woodville. The interior was delightfully done with many paintings/prints featuring traditional Thia/Cambodian scenes with my favourite animal – the elephant – and yes their trunks were up!Shown to a table for two, with the menus already on the table and being asked to make our choices, then the waitress, who appeared to be the owner, would be back to take the order. The menu was varied with many choices so it did some time to decide. While making this choice the positive statement on the menu caught my eye –All good food takes time to prepare. Decisions made, menus closed as a signal that we were ready. For moi Sweet and Sour Prawns with tossed seasonal vegetables and sweet and sour sauce. For my eating companion, Special Fried Rice. Drinks also ordered. There is a minimal wine list but from other clients bringing in their own reds, I can only assume that you can also BYO. I did not see any corkage signs.Trusting that the good food would take a little time, we conversed over the already delivered drinks. To our surprise, it was not long before the dishes arrived. During the wait time several more joined us in the dine-in option and also some came to collect their take away. My sweet and Sour Prawns was of a good size and delightful to taste with many medium sized prawns and a good variety of seasonal vegetables, traditional pineapple and a good sauce. My companion’s Fried Rice was also of a good size, but was very moist to be a fried rice. The texture was more like a risotto but was still good.Parking can be an issue as the restaurant is on a busy road, parking is available in side streets and across Woodville Road.Return? Yes definitely for a good meal at a reasonable cost.
