Au Fil des Douceurs

Our hotel in Cahors recommended this restaurant as one of the best, close by. Which was excellent for us after big day of train travel. We were booked in attended on time (a busy Saturday night). We were greeted by a nice young lady who didn’t speak a lot of English which we understand as we don’t speak a lot of French, she got out Name right showed us to our table. Shortly the waitress arrived, didn’t attempt to speak English or try to explain the menu. We ordered by pointing, the same with the wine.....pointing. We hadn’t received our main course when she pushed the menu at us again wanting to know what was for desserts. Again by pointing we ordered. Main meal OK no real complaints. Our plates removed desserts plonked on the table before we could wipe our lips from our mains. The hurry was again questioned although the desserts were ordered early, they were straight out of the fridge, when attempted to crack the creme brûlée toffee crust it was soft grainy poor in flavour texture. The Baba was served cold, never before have I had a cold Baba, the cake wouldn’t soak up the Rum. Very poor food especially the desserts the rude waitress/s make this a no go.

From outside the restaurant does not look very impressive, but once you are seated you are welcomed with a mouth freshner, which is not even given to some Mechlin star restaurants in France, food was outstanding the presentation superb and the desserts are to die for it’s a must , you have to have their deserts.

I appreciated the location, out of the bustle of the downtown area and with easier parking, by a lovely bridge over the Lot River. And the food was delightful! There were 2 fixed price menus, which were good values and had a variety of well-prepared and beautifully presented courses. We enjoyed ourselves.

Great cooking, generous servings and full of local flavour. Also a good selection of regional wines at reasonable prices, friendly helpful staff. Not Michelin star, but good food and reasonable prices

Lovely setting by the Pont Valentré, high class dishes presented beautifully and with great imagination.
