My wife and I had spent a long morning driving around the local countryside, and tried to find a place to have lunch - but to no avail. All the local towns and villages were closed for the day. Luzech, at least, seemed open, so we looked for somewhere to eat. As it was gone 2pm, we didn't hold out much hope - and lo, the local brasserie had stopped serving lunches, as we feared. Try next door, they suggested. And we did. And it was a total revelation. Au Petit Creux is one of those simple cafes that deals with good honest food. No pretention, just inexpensive good food. There was only one person running the place, a pleasant man who seemed to be doing everything - waiting on table, preparing the food, barman. 8 Euros secured me an "Assiette de Charcuterie", and my wife ordered a Tomato and Mozzarella salad at 7 Euros. A drink each, and (at the insistence of the "waiter") a pleasant table in the middle of the square, and we were set. It was the best lunch I had the whole holiday. And inexpensive too. Okay, the menu was limited, but who cares when you're hungry? On a side note, Luzech is not the most picturesque town in the area, but it more than makes up for it in being really friendly - even to English tourists. And we had a pleasant drive around the local vineyards after our lunch. Overall, the most enjoyable part of our 2 week holiday.
