Auberge De La Croix Ou Pile

We slowly crept through the secret forest of newly opened leaves to find ourselves in a clearing; there stood the fairy tale building of L'auberge de la Croix ou Pile. The restaurant was full which is always a good sign. The menu was varied, yet appealing to us because of the focus on local providers of produce - a valuable asset. We had the escargots to start with a wonderfully rich garlic butter. We followed with the lamb which was cooked to perfection - rose pink - and served with local vegetables and some beautiful new potatoes.The staff were accommodating to the younger members of our group - we were on a business trip - and met the needs of all tastes!On our next trip to Douai, we most definitely hope to return and we would like to thank M et Mme Renard for introducing us to this wonderful restaurant.

Travelling from UK, we reserved a lunch here to enjoy some refreshment before spectating at the Tour de France stage (Ypres to Arenberg) which included the infamous "cobbles" sections which are close to this restaurant. This restaurant has a great setting in the woods and had a great atmosphere and service, and the food on offer was excellent. On a cold and wet day this was just what we wanted There is nothing negative to say - Highly recommended

good reception, friendly service and affordable prices when a little break on the edge of the forest is necessary and also just for the pleasure of relaxing

Cool stuff in the middle of the forestFresh charcuterie, lots of local and regional beers and wines.
