Auberge Des Arcades

My wife and I had lunch there yesterday and it couldn 't have done more to put us back in good frame of mind after a tiring night flight and a frustrating and unnecessarily long drive (I was tired and got lost a few too many times) to Versailles. I was not very hungry so, on the advice of Maryannick, the owner, i ordered the house made duck terrine entree(10 euros). When she asked me what else, I answered Nothing . To which she replied, somewhat indignantly, That 's not enough food, as she showed me with her thumb and forefinger just what a small portion it would be. I told her that I was just not very hungry. She gave me a Gallic shrug and turned to Ellie, who ordered the daily formule, chicken with a house made sauce and dessert (12.50 euros). She looked back at me with an expression that told me, in no uncertain terms, that Ellie knew how to order a proper lunch and I certainly did not. When she brought our food out she put Ellie 's dish down and then my terrine. And it was not the tiny portion that she had indicated. Oh no! It was the whole pot, from which she ladled out a huge portion, telling me to take as much as I wanted. And it was absolutely delicious and I did scoop out some more. Ellie 's chicken was also great (which I helped her finish; I was apparently hungrier than I thought), with a lovely savory sauce. We had a nice, inexpensive bottle of Cotes du Rhone and finished our lunch sharing Ellie 's dessert of mousse au chocolat. We also shared a lot of laughs with our hostess and some of the local regulars. So, the unfancy, unpretentious L 'Auberge Des Arcades and the good-natured humor and warm hospitality of our hostess, not to mention the quality of the food, was just what we needed to put us in the mood to be able to enjoy our two week adventure in France

Proper traditional French food, prepared and cooked by chef Nadege (for the last 27 years) and served by friendly, comical owner, Maryannick. If you're after modern, nouvelle cuisine, served artistically in snobby gastro-sized portions by penguin-suited staff in plush premises, then you need not bother walking through the door of L'auberge Des Arcades, or even continuing to read this review. We saw the bar area through the door on a Friday night when nowhere else was open just to have a drink in Viroflay. The place looks shabby and in need of a refurbishment, however, more importantly it is clean and we received a warm welcome from Maryannick, despite the small restaurant (maybe 30 covers maximum) being practically full of diners. After enjoying a couple of drinks and Maryannick's great sense of humour, we decided to return on Saturday evening to eat. We were not disappointed. Frogs legs starter in a provencale sauce and gambas with a pastis jus, followed by tender steaks, cooked to perfection with a pepper sauce and delicious homemade fries. We had beer and wine, but too full to enjoy the home specialities of creme brulee or tarte tatin, which both looked amazing. Not the cheapest meal ever with the bill reaching €100, but the quality of the dishes and great hospitality more than made up for it, plus a night cap on the house from Maryannick. So, to recap, if you like hearty traditional French cuisine, efficient, relaxed and friendly service in a no frills setting, then this place is definitely worth a visit.

Stopped with our family and friends for authentic French cuisine. If you want chain restaurant food, this is not for you. If you want home and freshly made French food made with care and attention-take the quick stop off the area C train through the beautiful town of Viroflay. We tried many dishes and received friendly and thoughtful service. We will come again and highly recommend this restaurant for a lovely dinner experience.

the reviews of this small restaurant are true. Very good homemade food, from starters to dessert and coffee. We had the terrine de canard as a starter, and after the tete de veaux and the bavette. Wonderful dishes just as they should be. Thank you!
