Auberge du cheval blanc

Very disappointed! We often enjoy a fabulous lunch at a 'workers' restaurant in nearby 'Quatre Chemins' but thought we would visit here for a change. The restaurant is divided, really, which seems like segregation, where only workers enjoy the multi course bargain menu. Non workers, as deemed by le 'madam' must pay for a normal two course / three course option at a considerable premium while watching 'les travaillers' enjoy the same, 'plus plus plus' including wine and coffee, but for mic less? Surely such division is illegal in an 'egalitarian' France? If you are not a worker, you pay more for less?Hmmm. The food wasn't really worth the price hike either. Give this place a miss. They need to get real. You can't choose who eats what and for what price!

We were a group of 8 trips through France and looking for a place to eat at short notice on a Saturday evening was no easy task. The restaurant has. A charming garden and a very simple interior. There is only a very nice and efficient waitress who was very tolerant for our miserable French and always managed to understand our needs. The food is traditional, with a focus on good quality local products. Simple, good quality kitchen at a very fair price. 8 dinners, two bottles of local wine for less than 200€. Desserts were a bit disappointing, except the fine apple tea.

Very nice restaurant. Good table... I took a piece of veal in the girolles. Basically.

We never miss a visit to the Cheval Blanc when we are in the Charente.
