Whilst visiting Truro On a last minute whim with girlfriends we decided to do brunch. We found this quaint cafe in an alley way which we decided to eat at. Welcomed to a table we had lovely table service and the drinks arrived very quickly. When ordering we was disappointed to find that there was an all day breakfast but to have toast was additional charge, when the breakfast was already £8. However we didn’t make a fuss as we could see that the ingredients used were local which we always look for when dining out. Then food arrived …. The plates were absolutely stonking hot; whilst we all like hot food was it really necessary to have the plates this hot ? My poor mum has neuropathy so if I brought her to eat here then she would have burnt herself without even knowing. As the plates were so hot this in turn caused the toast to be very difficult to cut and the same for the poached eggs. The poached eggs were not cooked, they were watery inside no staff members came over to check to see how our food was or asking if everything was ok unfortunately. we didn’t make a fuss as that is something we don’t like to do. When going to pay the lady asked me if everything was ok with our food, I’m guessing when she cleared the table she could see that we had left all eggs and the toast that it had spilled on. I did say well not really the eggs were not cooked, the reply was not an apology just the attempt of justification that eggs are difficult to cook, they are cooked with a timer and it depends on the room temperature. I didn’t have anything to say to that as I stood in disbelief but thinking surely cooking an egg is a basic skill of a kitchen ? Nevertheless I paid the bill with no suggestion of discount or apology and went on my way. Whilst I don’t like to make a fuss if people ask if all is ok it would be silly not to say. This is not to say we wouldn’t return and try something different
