We made the mistake of trying to get a table for dinner in Chatel during half term without a reservation. After trying most of the restaurants in the town and giving up hope, we spotted L'Edelweiss. Although it is a fairly small restaurant they were happy to accommodate our table of 8 (including 4 children) without a booking. The menu is not extensive but we were pleased to see a selection of local dishes. The 4 adults opted for the meat fondue, and it was delicious. It was accompanied by a large bowl of green salad, rice, fries, bread and a variety of sauces. There was so much meat that we couldn't finish it all, although we tried! The children all had the burgers, which again were very generous and they all said that they were great. There was only one lady serving whilst we were there so service was on the slow side (she seemed rushed off her feet but was always smiling and friendly), but this wasn't an issue for us as we had plenty of time to enjoy our meal, however if you're in a rush it's worth noting. A glass of wine was very reasonably priced and they had a selection of wines by the bottle. All in all we had a great meal, and felt it was extremely good value for money. We would go back if in Chatel again.
