Once you finally reach the Mattajoch, you are welcomed like old friends and shown photo books of recent parties; when a band plays on the stage nearby outside, the place must really swing. The owner also works conscientiously to create a mountainside restaurant that is well-known in the virtual world, as evidenced by his online presence. Presuming you’ve hiked or ridden your bike all the way up, you can justify any dish and that’s a good thing, because the food is just excellent. We shared a portion of the Senner Rösti (hash browns with cheese and tomatoes and I believe a fried egg). Because I’m not a fan of apple strudel, we ordered only one portion. Big mistake! It truly is to die for, and next time I’ll know better. Evidently their cream strudel is just as tasty. As we were leaving, the owner plied us with a complimentary shot of hazelnut schnapps; he gets limited amounts from a friend each year and we were lucky enough to try some of the last drops. The magnificent panorama view from the restaurant is all the more justification for your endeavors getting up there. Those less prone to physical exertion can order the restaurant taxi to bring them up; otherwise, as far as we know, cars are prohibited unless you are vacationing in one of the nearby cabins.
