I was just treated to a late lunch at the Black Walnut Bakery Cafe in Wortley Village, London, Ontario. It was my first visit and definitely will not be my last! It offers an amazing menu with delicious soups, salads, sandwiches served on yummy freshly baked whole wheat bread, quiche and a huge array of baked goods, fair trade coffees, tea, lattes.....just about anything you can wish for.I was amazed at the choices for a small cafe. The menu is written on black boards behind the counter. The staff were very patient and welcoming as I pondered my options. I ordered a turkey Swiss sandwich served on thick whole wheat bread. It had sliced tomato in the sandwich, the turkey was thinly sliced but was plentiful. It was the best turkey sandwich I have ever had! It was so big I could only eat half, but that was okay because the sandwiches are served in fancy boxes which can be used to take your food home and can be recycled. Along with this treat I ordered the soup of the day which was pumpkin with goat cheese. I was unable to identify the well chosen spices in the soup but, it was tasty and not overpowering. Of course the goat cheese made it so smooth. I loved it.There was no way I could eat dessert but I did purchase some delicious butter tarts to take home. They too were so good...all the important things....generous size, flaky pastry, and a little runny....just perfect.Another important part...plenty of street parking. I highly recommend!
