If you're in the Sheffield MA area, then you're definitely going to want to step in this place. Set on the first floor of an antique home, it has all the charm of a New England cottage as you'd expect: solid plank floors, substantial fire place, old doors, and seating by the windows. Ah, but let's talk about the food. My wife and I were hungry after puttering around town a bit and wanted something substantial yet casual. This place easily fit the bill. Everything behind the deli counter is homemade. I had the chicken, bacon, mozzarella, tomato panini special. The mac and cheese was just made so I couldn't turn that down (and it didn't disappoint; my wife who never likes mac and cheese outside of her own actually approved). The elbows had a hint of al dente perfection while the white cheese was creamy with just that right amount of saltiness. Ahh! My sandwich was also a delight. Pressed to perfection, the mozz gently spilled over the chicken with bacon shreds adding that touch of salt and the beefsteak tomato tied it all together. All of this excitement was housed in a requested deli roll (not the suggested ciabatta), with handsome and inviting panini sear marks. Excellent. And I sure hope you'll leave room for dessert. We asked what was fresh and the carrot cake was on the top of the list. Topped with a thin layer of cream cheese icing, the dark and moist carrot cake was sublime. Blue Door got this one right too, perfectly balancing the sweetness of the icing and the fruitiness of the cake. I almost asked for another slice to go, but figured it was best to leave wanting, especially for another reason to return to Sheffield. All of this was topped by excellent service provided by an attentive and polite young man who ran the counter, crafted our sandwiches, and kept the shop tidy. Great job Blue Door!

Whenever I'm visiting Berkshire County from my hometown in eastern Long Island, I always set my check in destination to Blue Door Market Cafe. Beside the necessity of stocking up on craft beers and wine from their exceptional selection (which includes some of my favorite breweries from Long Island) is the reason I always save myself an appetite to dine in for a bite to eat: fresh, homemade, organic food.If it's going to be around lunchtime, I go for a hot deli sandwich paired with something from their unique and particularly fine selection of snacks, beverages, and other staple products (I always try to leave with, or after trying, something new). If it's later in the evening, I satisfy my sweet tooth with a fat slice of their Chocolate Stout Cake (always fresh) and a tall glass of milk. And there is no better way to begin the early morning journey back to Long Island than to check out of Berkshire County with a cup of their fresh brewed coffee and a hot egg sandwich that is either on par or better than my local deli's egg sandwich back home. (If I was a Sheffield local I would make Blue Door part of my morning routine: after a brisk walk, enjoying a hot breakfast with a strong cup of coffee while I read the paper).Aside from meeting the standard criteria of any 5 star establishment (fast and friendly service, clean atmosphere, signature style and products) Blue Door Market Cafe has the alluring attraction of a general store with the charm and elegance of an art museum; it is a blessing for any local and an exceptional pit stop experience for any tourist!

It 's a deli, a convenience store, and a package store all rolled into one and tucked into an old colonial house. We stopped in for lunch yesterday, bought two sandwiches and enjoyed them at one of the picnic tables set up on the front lawn. We went with a turkey sandwich $6) and a Cuban Panini $10), My Cuban came with roast beef, ham, pickles, Swiss cheese, and a mustard sauce. It was a pretty hefty sandwich with a lot of meat and tasted great except for one maddening fault. There were two pieces of hard inedible globs of fat/gristle yelp.com/biz_photos/blue… somehow made it onto the sandwich resulting in the ever lovely spit out . Now look, those faulty slices of roast beef just didn 't levitate onto the sandwich. Some human being was responsible for placing them by hand where they ended up. So either a) the person who did it wasn 't paying attention, didn 't see what they were doing, and carelessly put them on the sandwich, or b) the person who did it saw what he or she was doing and just plain didn 't care to do something about it and thought it would be acceptable to serve it to a paying customer. So, I can 't know where the point of failure was, but either way was just as grievous. Other than that, my $10 sandwich was quite good.

Had high hopes upon new ownership and saw great things happening at first. Some new blood in the place made for new products, slightly better quality, new menu, etc. They unfortunately failed to keep it up. First off-not actually open the hours they say they are. Yelp, Facebook, Google all have their hours posted as open until 10 or 11 depending on the day. Drove over at 9:15-closed and pitch black in there. Last time I was there I bought a loaf of bread-got home and it was moldy. The time before that, I bought crackers and bread there and both were incredibly stale, I guess I should have known better. Many of their groceries are out of date on the shelves which doesn't make me trust the food behind the counter so much anymore. Also, none of them are priced which is very annoying in any store. I've returned since the stale crackers and moldy bread purely out of convenience, but no more. I'll take the drive into GB or Canaan, or do without before going back.
