Bodega was very busy when we arrived for dinner. I get it. Great reviews, location, location, location. My sister and I had our hearts set on a tapas style dinner with visiting and wine and maybe patio if we were lucky with no traffic and downtown and exactly everything that Bodega is.However, we got there and there is a wait for a table. Perhaps 10 minutes for inside and up to 45 for patio. That's ok. We'd love a glass of wine at the bar while we wait and the time is no problem, we're in no hurry.No can do. We were told that we could wait at the door for the 10 minutes for inside because it would confuse the servers if we sat at the bar and then moved to a table. Ok we both have worked hospitality and we get that nowadays computer systems might not like us changing seats so we'll pay cash at the bar and move when a seat becomes available. Nope. That will still confuse the system. Huh? How? We truly don't understand why we can't sit at the bar, have a glass of wine and pay cash to the bartender, tip him accordingly and then move to a table when it becomes vacant. I would love for someone from this establishment to explain why this scenario is not do-able. We wanted to stay and love this place. Why were we allowed to leave when we were suggesting ways for us to stay? I would've had a far different review of my experience, which so far wasn't about my experience at all. It seems that the experience that matters is the servers' and we mustn't confuse them. Now, I'm confused.
My wife and I popped in during our recent trip to Victoria and we were more than pleased with our food...My wife had their Boo Box cocktail and I went with an IPA. We split the Bodega board which had a little bit of everything...The food was great and we had several people walking by stop and ask "what is that?"...This was our first meal in Victoria and definitely set the bar high for everyone else during our trip.
We have been to Bodega a few times and have always enjoyed our meal. The staff are friendly and accommodating and the tapas are amazing...fresh and very tasty. The prices are reasonable, both for the wine and small plates. This time we had the stuffed paquillos and papas suprema. I would recommend either or both...with a glass or two of wine it was a perfect lunch.
My sister and I had lunch here the other day. It was a hot day but nice and cool on the terrace of the Tapas place. We had some really yummy Tapas and a glass of white wine each, which was good too. I hope to visit again next time I'm staying with my family on Vancouver Island. Service was also good. I recommend the cold prawn dish, which was my favourite.
