This restaurant opened at the start of September. We went for lunch with a neighbour, who thought it not necessary to book. It turned out to be very busy and we had one of the last available tables. There was a pizzeria here, but it failed several years ago and we were surprised to see that a new restaurant had opened. We were more surprised when our neighbour said it was worth a visit and suggested we went. A lot of work has been done on the building and it's now very modern, bright and airy; gone is the old pizzeria style booths and dark décor and in it's place is a modern purple bar and some tables downstairs and a dining room upstairs. There's a lift for trays, but several time the chef came running up the stairs with plates of food. The set menu was charcuterie / fish and chips and a pudding I can't remember. The fish and chips that we saw coming out looked very good, but none of us wanted this so we ate from the carte. To be honest I was a bit dubious when I looked at what was on offer, starters consisted of two soups and charcuterie. The mains were very traditional dishes, the sort of thing you get everywhere, “same old, same old” I thought to myself. I was wrong. We started with crème de moules. Wow! This was good, the broth had just the faintest hint of curry flavouring and the dish was full of mussels. I'd go back again and again for this starter. P had vegetable soup which also was very good. I had poitrine de porc fermier (basse temp.). This was absolutely delicious. It's been years since I've eaten a piece of belly pork this good, my two recent experiences of this dish in England have been horrible. My companions had entrecote, which looked pretty good and grilled boudin noir with roasted butternut squash, which really made that plate special. Deserts didn't let the side down either. Two of us had tiramisu, with pears and a speculoos base, whilst P had a chocolate pudding and ice cream which she enjoyed immensely. We'll definitely return when we're next in the area.I wrote the above notes shortly after we visited in September, we returned on a chilly December Saturday lunch time and although the restaurant was a lot quieter, the food was equally good.
