After a long day of exploration we wanted to eat somewhere from the tourist area and came across this place. Happy for us, a couple went and we took their table, otherwise the dinner here was tight and obviously a very popular brewery in...town with the locals. Our waitress was nice and we could say that she had her hands full with all the space we were in. Our food came in wonderful speed to our tables (the sourdrates were great and the geese tasty) and the beers were plentiful. We had a great time and filled with good food and beer.
There is a choice between indoor seating with service or a courtyard with self service. Both are very popular. The wood paneled salon is very cosy and busy. Many people book in advance which is recommended. Our first visit was at about 15:00 but they...had stopped serving food at 14:30 and didn't restart until 17:30. Lovely draft beer. Came back the next evening and managed to share a table. I had a schnitzel which was tasty but quite large. Great value and very friendly staff. Probably my favorite place in Bamberg.
In a small distance to both the station and the centre, the Fässla little barrel is a historical brewing house with big rooms. For UK tourists I suggets the entrance area, as it is very similar to a pub: You can buy your beer at...the tap, drink while standing or sitting on common tables while meeting people. In comparison, the patrons are a broad mix of ages and professions,which will make your visit interesting.The beer is very good too! Clean restrooms as well, in case one needs.
Here at a group of people who have all agreed that the situation was good to find easily, and the back room had better acoustics and not loud. The Schnitzel was huge and good, the Blaukohl was sweet, the Sauerkraut was slightly sweet, the pig was... good, and the sausage was okay. I found the menu quite limited with much for meat eaters and heavy food, but good.
