Pulled in at the Cafe Clemence Saturday lunchtime after finishing work and was on my way home. I had previously eaten there, again whist passing through, so knew that the new owners provided a decent, inexpensive meal. The fish and chip side of the business has only been going for a month and has proved to be popular with the locals. It is now very popular with me after an excellent plate of fish (very large piece), chips and proper mushy peas. Very pleasant young lady behind the counter, who is also the waitress , had to deal with three nationalities at the same time. British, French and three German chaps who came in. All done very professionally with no fuss. The owner and chef made us welcome and explained just where he sourced his products, he was obviously proud of his high standards and rightly so. All in all I can say honestly that this was the best fish and chips that I have eaten since I arrived in France. I will definitely be going back to this friendly, very clean and welcoming restaurant.
Driving thru and found this place with a sign displaying fish and chips.The area out the front has no views so we asked for take away which they kindly provided and went down to the lovely Vienne river.The fish pieces were fine except for one that was discoloured? The chips were terrible. Looked frozen and old. I've seen the other reviews but I wasn't impressed.
A really warm welcome & a Fabulous Saturday Lunch Special of Fish, Chips, Mushy peas, Mug of tea & Bread & Butter. Piping hot, chips like the best homemade, really tasty crisp batter on the perfectly cooked fish. The new owners are doing a superb job.First visit. I'll soon be back!
Good wholesome fish and chips, as well as assorted other somewhat British delicacies. The food was good and relatively inexpensive. The service was friendly and efficient. An altogether pleasant place to be. We will most certainly be back.
