The Café de la Mairie is so much more than the name suggests. As in many French towns the owners run a successful and welcoming café alongside sale of lottery tickets, cigarettes and stamps. Over the years this has become our favourite place for coffee or chocolate during the day, a beer after a long walk or an apperatif before our evening walk. The owners and staff are without exception welcoming and attentive. The little dog Cannelle is an important part of the team and gives her own welcome. The café serves breakfast and then snacks throughout the day. The beer is particularly good, a range from a local brewery. There are tables outside which were well used this week as the weather was good. Seating inside is well planned maximising comfort in a small place. It was particularly nice this week to see the plant displays that fill the centre of the walled city. My husband and I very much look forward to our next visit!
We went to this lovely café which is opposite the Jardin Ephemere and the town hall in the beautiful square of the old town. We sat outside as it was a hot and sunny day. We had couple of large St Omer beers. The service was friendly and attentive. It early evening on Sunday and we saw a religious procession go by. It was a perfect place to relax and chill out.
We popped in for a hot chocolate and a beer to avoid the drizzle and were very glad we did. This is a traditional French bar-tabac and gives you a feel for local culture. We ordered at the counter and the drinks were brought to our table. It was a good place to sit and watch the world go by and the weather to blow over/
A small cafe, bustling with locals and tourists, it offers a small insight into French life. A simple snack-ish menu and a small range of beers (delicious) and wine (ditto). I’ve said this before but, if you come to Cite Europe for the shopping, go somewhere else for a spot of lunch.
