Visited here for lunch at the end of May whilst touring the nearby Champagne houses in Hautvillers. The setting is lovely, this restaurant appears to be in the village centre, opposite the tourist office and very close to various Champagne producers. We did visit in the lunch period of 12-2 (the champagne houses shut for lunch) so it was very busy, with both tourists and locals. At the time this did appear to be the only option as I couldn't see any other shops or cafes anywhere..and the setting with the outside seating did appeal anyway. The service was patchy, it did appear that the waitress in our section favoured the 'locals' in terms of paying attention and delivering food - although we may just have been unlucky. They were friendly enough but not overtly attentive. We ordered a variety of meals including the classic Croque Monsieur, and steak. Steaks were cooked well and the kids enjoyed them. The croque monsieur was also very nice, however this alone was 11.50 Euros which is expensive for what is in effect a toastie with a few chips. I would imagine that the prices are like this due to the tourists which visit this village (Home of Don Perignon and all that!)If I came to Hautvillers again I would do a bit of research first and find a different place to eat. It wasnt a bad experience overall I just think there must be better places in a village as pretty as this.
