Café-Hotel Appenzell

I loved this hotel. The hotel itself, like the rest of Appenzell, looks like it is straight out of the fairytale "Hanzel and Gretel." The hotel was charming as was the staff. The staff were so very helpful with advice about festivities both in Appenzell and beyond. Our room was large, comfortable, clean and spacious. The breakfast buffet was comprehensive and excellent. It included a variety of deli meats, Appenzell cheeses, fruit, breads, pastries and bircher muesli. A lovely touch I found was one of the ladies (I think she may have been the owner) coming in regularly to check that we had eaten enough and continually adding to the buffet.There was a patisserie with cakes, bread, chocolates and other goodies at the hotel as well as a lovely cafe with some fabulous food and winter drinks. The location was ideal. An easy walking distance from the station and next to shops and cafes/restaurants. I was thrilled that I chose to stay here. It exceeded my expectations.

Nice service without any delays. The menus were nicely written and the various dishes sounded great. When our lunch came the food was indeed good. The restaurant is well situated and the hotel looks nice too. Decent espresso machiatto. I would go back.

We had three meals here during our stay at the Hotel. Always excellent family style cooking with flair and variety. The staff were attentive and responsive, friendly and helpful. Meals are available all day, and not just in the set meal times.

However the restaurant service is what I would call too efficient. The waitress passes by every 30 seconds, which I guess could be very good, but a little distracting.

Is my favourite place in Appenzell to eat.And I love the cute corner in the back of the restaurant, very charming.Everything is fresh
