Calau - Tisch reservieren

What defines popularity? What is a statement of arrogance? What is local? What is a tourist? Let this endless list of questions be answered in a tiny town called Calella de Parafrugell. Tiny indeed, mini beaches preventing mass of tourists to enjoy it (unless stacked three feet high) and a wide array of restaurants attracting you with splendid sea views (and yes, they are simply splendid). Comes the answer to the questions. If popularity is defined by a long queue (I mean 30-40 people) in front of your doorstep waiting for you to open the doors for dinner, yes, you score. If this long queue is composed of not one single local (I mean Spanish speaking human being), you might define popularity different. What is arrogance? If this means you do not accept reservations, not by phone, not online, yes, that might be a good definition. After all, the queue is there. If however your aim is exactly to prevent locals to come (Spanish hate queues) you might not need that kind of arrogance. Simply because you will achieve that by serving emblematic pintxos (little bites and tapas) in a Chinese buffet style process, ensuring you maximize the turnaround time of tables at the speed of sound (or light). What you will not achieve is the sense of preparing local food as per the basic principles of culinary art and slowness (which in Spain dinner is all about). So Calau is like a machine, producing a 100 constant quality, at speed of light, kind of fastfood at the sea. Ideal thus for those liking the airport or Chinese experience.

This restaurant never disappoints. Front of house ladies are just so lovely as are all the waiters. The food is just amazing, the different textures and flavours. We visit here at least 5 times during our two week stays. It’s not that there aren’t any other good restaurants around it’s just that this is our favourite by far. Really wished they had something similar when we return back to UK. Try the pigs trotters I think I turned my nose up the first time until a local told me to try them!

The location is perfect and if you are lucky to get a table outside you can get a beautiful picture of the Calla from your table. Then, you start enjoying eating the tapas which are amazing !! I came back after 3 years, because of the pandemic, and the service and the quality of the tapas continue being as good as the first time I visited years ago. I will not recommend which are the best tapas to eat because all are delicious!!

Yet another great dining experience at Calau during our recent holiday in beautiful Calella de Palafrugell. Beautiful food and many different options and courses from our previous visits. Can perfectly understand the long queues no booking in advance but well worth the wait!
