A beautiful hotel in a fairytale setting. If i would write a book I could do that here. Hotel. Just beautiful. It 's also about expectation, we don 't expect a sterile white building like a hospital. No, this castle is hundreds of years old and you can see that. Beautiful moody lounge with comfortable chairs, fireplace, piano and chandeliers. It is a family hotel, the white laundry just hangs to dry in the garden. The staff speaks mostly French and only a little English, I think that 's how it should be. Be proud of the language and culture. We think there is a large cell transmission tower in the village because our reception of the mobile phones was great. More than 100 megabits and then you don 't use the hotel WIFI. Rooms. The rooms are cozy, nice with small windows and shutters in front. As befits a castle. There is thick carpeting and the bathroom is surprisingly new and modern. There is no elevator as you might expect. Food. Breakfast is French with homemade jams and fresh bread rolls. The coffee is good but not Italian quality. I am a coffee lover and my standard is high. Lunch is great and so is the food in the evening. All French style cooking. No fast food here. The Duck with orange sauce is amazing. The Hotel does not have bad wine. Surroundings. The castle is located in a valley between steep Alps giants. In addition to the beautiful castle, the environment is perfect, wild mountains around you and behind the castle a wild river. You hear the water at night. The road past the hotel comes to a dead end in Berarde 24 kilometers away and there is little traffic. It 's a narrow road. The Hotel is at 1000 meters altitude and cool in the morning even on summer days. This must be lovely in the winter. Further downhill, a 600 meter walk is the Telecabine to the Deux Alpes, an eight minute journey uphill. I can imagine that for the winter sports this is a way to get on the ski slopes. Or you have to make a complete detour with the N91. But then you need a car. This place is paradise for cyclists and hikers. I would not recommend it for people with walking difficulties because there are sometimes large stones on the hiking trails and the road is sometimes steep. For cyclists, within cycling distance are eight famous cols from the Tour de France and although the Alpe 'd Huez is the most famous, the Berarde next to the Hotel is the most beautiful climb on a bike that I know of: Uphill 24 kilometers with maximum 10% stretch and beautiful scenery. For young kids this is not the best place although around 800 meters away there is a swimming pool but young children can 't hike or cycle and that seems to me the main reason to be here. And for the incredible peace and quiet. If i would write a book I could do that here. Parking. The valley is narrow and the parking is sparse, not many cars fit and a bus or a camper seems almost impossible to park. The Hotel is in a steep valley. So space for cars is limited. You cannot move a mountain. What can be done better? I give this Hotel 5 maximum stars but if you would like to improve? The beds are on the short side for Dutch people, a problem in many hotels. The coffee could also be better, the coffee is not very strong and the espresso too watery. It should be creamier. Finally, the food is good and really French high quality but if you 've been walking or took a trip on your road bike, the food portions are too small. Doing a long mountain ride takes a lot of energy. I can imagine that winter sports enthusiasts also need the necessary calories. edit small typo.

Visited after TdF, so still busy area. Parking was a bit hard to come by. Didn't try the food, but a bar restaurant was present. Mini golf, lots of seating front and back. Room 210 was renovated (flooring, tile, paint, faucet's etc) Bed linen's clean comfortable. Same as bathroom. A French window in bedroom single in bathroom opened to the sound of river on the backside made for a nice touch to fall asleep.

Stunningly pretty old chateau that given storms washed away parts of the access road at the same time as wiping-out La Berarde) need be accessed by a free cable car from Les 2Alpes. We only stopped for afternoon drinks n' nibbled so can't comment on rooms. The staff were delightful and nothing was too much trouble. Go on, pay a visit.

Very nice little hotel in a green setting. Very pleasant family atmosphere. Ideal to relax and discover the surrounding region.
