Chateau d'Isenbourg - Les Tommeries

I stayed at the Chateau for a few days and when I checked in was asked if I wanted to make a reservation at the restaurant which I did.I went early since I was eating solo. The view from the terrace is incredible and it gets even more gorgeous as the sun sets and the shadows cover the church in Rouffach.The food here is classic french with a middle eastern touch of spices. The portions are big. I was originally going to order the pre-set menu but was concerned about too much food so the server encouraged me to just order separately from the menu.I think the pre-set menu is better value if you have a group of people. I ordered the scallops, "noix de Saint-Jacques fumées, betteraves rouges au sésame, focaccia et coulis de cresson" as an appetizer. It was big and I could have had that alone for dinner. I liked the chefs use of the beets cut into noodles. For the main I chose the "dos de cabillaud à la sauce safranée, fenouil croquet et humous à la conandre. I loved the fish, it was a flaky white fish and very good served on a bed of fennel which I love and accompanied by a chickpea puree. I was so filled by the 2 dishes that I did not order dessert but they did serve a plate of dessert mignons which I took with a glass of wine to finish on the patio of the bar.I think Les Tommeries is a special " go to" restaurant. As a guest at the hotel, it was fantastic to have a meal there but too much to go to 2 days in a row. The atmosphere is incredible (on the outside terrsace) and if you are staying in Colmar completely worth a visit for dinner, it is only 20 minutes away. I think the location and view is very unique for the area. The food is good and not too heavy, the plates are artfully plated. It is a fine dining meal.I found the service a bit scattered but as the dining room filled up with groups the servers got busy with other tables. The wine list is good as well.As an aside if you are staying at the hotel, the breakfast room is about as comprehensive a breakfast as I have seen anywhere, it was pretty incredible and can completely fill you up for the rest of the day until dinner.

We went there to celebrate a birthday. It was all very good. An excellent meal as well as the wines for which I found the rates very correct for the place. He was just making the frame a little better.
