Faites Attention!! If you order the set menu for example the Grillardin, you can have a glass of wine for 2 Euros. We ordered two glasses of wine but when we came to pay the bill, we had been charged for more expensive wine. We hadn't seen the bottles so for all we knew, we may have been given the 2 Euro wine. I queried it at the till and the chef just shrugged as if it was our fault. The food was excellent but I am writing this review to warn other diners who might be charged more than the 2 Euros per glass of wine they were expecting. So to be sure of getting the 2 Euros wine which is the offer with the Grillardin menu, you should point to the bottom of the menu where this offer is stated. If you want more expensive wine, ask to see the bottle. The staff seem very nice but the waiter/ chef should have helped us a bit more when I queried this instead of shrugging.
We were staying at a nearby hotel and wanted somewhere within walking distance for our evening meal. In common with many small diners in France, this was essentially a beef restaurant and we plumped for the evening menu with a fixed price for a limited choice of entrée and steaks/burgers. Duo de saumon sur lit d'aubergines, or Rillets du Thon went down very well followed by the steaks/burgers (in my case a 170 g Faux-filet). All was well presented in a clean dining area by staff who – for a mixed nationality group – spoke sufficient English for us to order and be understood. The house wine was excellent and there was more than sufficient food all round. A great meal at just over £70 for the four of us.
The staff here were very helpful and pleasant. The restaurant was quite busy for a weekday which gave the place a good atmosphere. Prices were reasonable, quality of food was very good, well cooked, menu had a good choice of meals not just standard burgers and chips. We have visited this chain of restaurants before when travelling through France and can say that the Chartres branch gave us the best quality of food and service we have had from the chain.
After a life threatening trudge over the roads from the ibis we ate a well deserved dinner. Well deserved maybe but well delivered not. Staff were great but the food was average and more expensive than it should have been. €96+TIP for two is really not what you expect from a chain restaurant. In a snow storm with drifts of 2 feet I would be happy to return.but in any other time I will go on.
