The Cowboy Thai restaurant in Dee Why offers Thai food with staff dressed like cowboys and Johnny Cash (for example) playing in the background. I've seen a Thai restaurant in Los Angeles with an Elvis impersonator so I guess this is just another variation to offer something different. What is good about it is that parking should not be a problem unlike some other Thai restaurants on the same Pittwater Road. This one is near the southern (Sydney) end and although parking on Pittwater Road is nearly always difficult it is close to Mooramba Road which runs parallel to Pittwater and if you can't park on Mooramba there is a large public lot 3-hours free which usually has vacant spaces, especially after 5. Also at least when we went (1830) it wasn't very crowded. You get real tables and chairs like a normal restaurant versus some of the cheaper competitors where you're luck to share a picnic table with other patrons. However, a typical dish (eg Tom Yum spicy prawn soup) runs 4-5 dollars more than nearby competition so you could spend $10 per person extra. As someone who worked in Thailand and has eaten Thai food in many countries, I found these dishes were authentic but nothing exceptional. You can find better and also cheaper Thai food only a few blocks north on the same Pittwater Road.

Already the name sounded strange and contradictory to me, although maybe that was that encouraged us to make a try.The decor tries to imitate the Wild West, which is a combination of Thai cuisine is mildly, ridiculous. The waitress offered us to put on cowboy hats from their copious stock, and then she would photograph us. Probably about 55 years ago, I would go for it.The food that was served aroused ambivalent feelings in me.The Prawn tempura appetizer we ordered was delicious, also the edamame beans (who can spoil this?)My partner Satay Noodles was also tasty, but my Chilli Chicken Basil, to put it mildly, was deeply left below the expectations. As two much better Thai restaurants in the immediate area, I do not think we go back here ever.

I am a total slacker in this review - didn't dine in and had my meal home delivered, didn't even take pics. But it was so damned good it deserved a mention. It came through Menulog and it arrived in about 35mins - very quick for the area. The fish cakes were better than the usual, the BBQ Chicken Satay sticks were divine and the Pad Thai was AOK.Can't comment on anything else - the food was good and as a food pig, for me, its all about the food. I need to make a date to actually visit the restaurant now. I will definitely be eating here again.

The Cowboy Thai restaurant is a karaoke restaurant. You can dance and sing. The food is extremely reasonable priced and very good. The hosts are very welcoming. They can cater for birthdays etc... put up balloons for you and sort out your cake. BYO wine only. Its a great fun evening. They give you cowboy hats to wear.
