I grew up across the road from this restaurant and remember it when it was a tiny, little square box of a take out restaurant on the corner of King and Gibbons Street. The location hasn't changed, but the restaurant is much larger now and part of a strip mall. I haven't lived in Oshawa for 40 years, and wow, how the city has changed. The new version of 'Dines' has been there for a few decades, I guess, but I was delighted to still recognize our waitress from 'the old days'. I took my 87 year old Dad there for lunch, and since we are always on the quest for a great toasted western sandwich for him, I was very happy that he wasn't disappointed. And for me, I was able to order a side of dill pickles, which while it may be an odd lunch, was exactly what I wanted, along with a camomile tea. Thank you Dines for being an 'old faithful'.
Took advantage of a $4.99 breakfast coupon in the local paper. Three eggs, four strips of bacon and homefries would usually cost $7.99 and include coffee ($2) but the coupon did not include coffee.Eggs were scrambled perfectly and not burnt like a lot of breakfast places. The large bacon strips had a nice smokey flavour and the homefries were crisped nicely in the flat-top grill. Not too busy and service was quick and efficient. Stopped coming here years ago as it got run down and prices kept increasing but notice they've reupholstered their old bench seats and added some new chairs to freshen up the place. Prices still a little high for a diner compared to comparable ones in the area.
Had a great breakfast of steak and eggs at Dines. Old fashion family restaurant offering value for your money. It has been there a while and it is easy to see why. The wait staff was very nice, offering coffee refills without asking.
Fantastic service, good food, lots of parking, prices are nice. The renovations look good. If your tired of eating at a franchise restaurant and over paying go to Dines.
