We decided to visit the Chateau and so this was an obvious place for lunch being opposite the front gate. We went for the Poisson de jour simply as it seemed the easiest to understand of the French dishes and it was delicious. An extremely tasty fish served in a great sauce with very interesting vegetable towers. Followed up with some profiteroles and accompanied by a drink in the 15 euro deal it was a good value tasty meal served by helpful and speedy staff. I'd almost give this place 5 stars if it weren't for the cumbersome effort of paying where we had to walk through to the hotel where a receptionist painstakingly wrote out our bill by hand. Quaint but we could have done without a queue to escape.
Standard fare, goats cheese salad was fine but the honey dressing appeared to be missing. Smoked salmon salad okay too. Salad purely leaves. As a party of two, we were ordered away from the nicest, coolest available table as it was for 4. 35 degrees outside but nice and cool indoors unfortunately they wouldn’t allow anyone to sit inside. Right by the busy road so quite noisy. Right opposite entrance to Chateau de Campagne but if you are visiting the chateau it looks like they have a better option for eating than here.
Our party of six had a pleasant lunch there. The food was delicious, well prepared and presented. The service was a little chilly. I my plat principal arrived significantly after everyone else’s, but was good. The half dozen other restaurants I’ve eaten in around Le Bugue were friendlier. This isn’t Paris.
Sitting outside under the shade of the trees whilst eating a really great meal and drinking some great local wine what more could you ask! We shall be back
