Flame Food+design

We were rather disappointed with our experience at Flame. We like to check out new restaurants in the neighbourhood and there was some chatter about the place, though not too many reviews on line and we don’t trust Yelp reviews. We were disappointed in several ways... 1) Ambience: the restaurant is too packed with tables, and the crescendo of talking,even for a Saturday night, was extreme.It also lasted longer than most because of the timing of the meals coming to tables (see 2 below) It was certainly lively, but also very very loud. 2) Our food came out about 45 minutes after we ordered it. We understand it needs to be cooked from scratch on the grill, but we were also stuck behind a very large party. This means that there is a timing problem with reservations and the ability of the kitchen to service them. If the grill can’t time for the numbers seated, then the numbers seated should drop at different time periods, and be spaced properly. With a “chef/designer” proprietor and a “professor” co-proprietor, perhaps there is inexperience here with running a dining room. ALL meals came out at the same time, and the noise level in the room finally dropped as people ate...a couple seated an hour after us had their food in 15 minutes; 3) The food was disappointing. It’s a Turkish restaurant but there were no Turkish flavours on the meat! The lamb was served with a sprig of rosemary, as it would be in any gourmet restaurant...shouldn’t there be something like pomegranate sauce? Coffee sauce? Something unique to Turkey? The short rib was actually a long beef rib, but there was only one. Actually, for $38 and $39 respectively, the portions were small. And not that we are insisting, but no starch was odd, no rice? No delicious roast Parisienne potatoes? The shallots roasted on the grill might have been delicious but they were raw, not grilled or cooked through. The artichoke was a unique yummy touch. But it was the only highlight. 4) the pricing was high, we thought.

Exquisitely delicious food, nice atmosphere, friendly staff, lovely music, everything was impeccable. Would definitely go back try different things

We went to the XMAS lunch. Mouth irrigation and delicious. Must be back sooner than later Fantastic Peach Dessert. Yum!

Great food. Creative presentation. Nice atmosphere. Kind, nice, friendly hosts (who are also owners). Must go.
