Frenchy's Poutinery

This was not what I was expecting but we ordered poutine and made our way to the table. The restroom was sketchy, in various states of disrepair. It was no different than any other campus area dive butI was looking forward to enjoying an upscale eatery downtown or by the waterfront and that atmosphere was lacking. Crispy french fries are covered in a hot brown gravy and drizzled with cheese curds. That is poutine! This place offers a wide array of mix-ins and choices from dill pickles to roasted red peppers, pulled pork and onions, to just about anything you can think of. The food was hot and arrived relatively fast, canned drinks were the only option. Parking can be an issue in the area, the staff seemed to serve more to-go orders while we were there so call ahead or run real fast - there are just a few tables inside.

If you do not know, poutine at its most basic is fries, cheese curds and brown gravy, Some locations will use shredded cheese instead of cheese curds. There is a difference. At Frenchy's you start with the basics then can add from there. Several items can be added for free. I added mushrooms at no cost. A few meat items can be added for a small fee. The items are made fresh and to order. The menu also has some sliders. Drinks are also available. The location is very casual. All orders are served in disposable containers. The space is dimly lit and somewhat unfinished. Since I went there to eat, that did not bother me.

I came here on a Thursday evening after hearing raves about it from my peers. I'm Canadian & thus, I've had a lot of poutine in my lifetime. I ordered a small poutine, which consisted of French fries, gravy & cheese curds. It was good poutine, but not the best I've had. After ordering, I was able to get my poutine in about 5 minutes, so A+ for the quick service. The person cooking was also really friendly!

Fantastic location right downtown on Ouellette that looks super dingy when you first walk in but the poutine is fantastic. Added pulled pork to my fresh poutine and it was amazing. Fries were made fresh right infront of me and the cheesed melted perfectly all over. The portion was super generous I couldn't even finish it. Great place to get something quick to eat if you're in the area.

So many choices to top the poutine. We ended up ordering it with just gravy and cheese curds. Really really good. The cook says they are known for the pulled pork topping. Can't wait to add some toppings next visit.
