It has taken some time, but on our latest trip to Mayrhofen, we finally got around to visiting the Steinerkogl. We took the easiest route up there – the local bus up to Brandberg, and then a steady uphill walk, along the roadside, until you see the Steinerkogl appear in front of you. There are other, more strenuous routes, if you have the energy!Initially, as it was warm, and the views are truly spectacular, we sat out on the terrace that looks over Mayrhofen, and ordered some drinks, and a bit of lunch. My wife opted for a coffee and cake, I went for a refreshing Radler. My daughter ordered some fries, and could have shared them with her brother (also eating cake!).To eat, I chose the Kaiserschmarn. Having never had it before, but liking the idea of a plate of shredded pancakes, and feeling the need to refuel, I couldn’t go for anything else! It was amazing. The size of the portion was just right, and the taste was out of this world. When I told the owner that it was the first time I’d had it, she said that the Steinerkogl had the reputation of the best Kaiserschmarn in Mayrhofen – I did try some elsewhere, and I have to agree! We opted to walk back down to Mayrhofen through the woods, which is a pleasant descent (slightly tricky in parts). We will visit again on our next holiday to Mayrhofen!
