Been in Zurich twice and Geeren is a must-visit place if you want to have very traditional Swiss food. I visited in Nov and I was lucky to have their seasonal menu. I ordered boiled rippli and bacon, the pork is very tender and with the smokiness is light but noticeable. The dish supposed to come with potatoes, but I swapped to Roesti, since Roesit is also their signature dish. The potato pancake is fried until golden brown, it is crispy outside and soft and mushy inside. I also tried their sauser (or written as "Suuser" on the menu), Another must-try is their dessert, they have very good dessert, all prepared in house, therefore be sure not to over eat during the dinner (Btw, their food portion is very generous!!!). My recommendation would be meringue, griesspudding with berries sauce and caramel pudding. When our desserts were served, the table next to us saw the tempting presentation of the desserts and decided to order as well. Guess what, when their desserts were served, the table behind them saw and order some! Apparently the dessert syndrome is contagious in Geeren!Downside of the restaurant is that it is not easily accessible. Also, It is always filled with family groups, so beware that it could be noisy.
This restaurant is indeed one if not the restaurant to go and visit if Swiss Food and culture is something that wants so be experienced. A Restaurant that has been around for many decades and the food can not get any more authentic! A must to go and try. Price wise rather cheap than anything else.
We just had our first dinner at Geeren and liked the friendly service, cozy and authentic setting, and of course the food. By Swiss standards the prices were reasonable. So close to the city & easy to access by bus or car. Well worth a detour. We'll be back soon with visitors.
We go there a lot and it is one of our favorite restaurants. Is very nicely located and the food is excellent. Typical Swiss food in an authentic environment with lovely staff. Great value for money!
