I remember a time when you used to be able to get a really good curry in this restaurant. Unfortunately, that was years ago and the quality now is not a patch on what it used to be. I don’t know if this was because of a change of management or because there’s a different chef now but whatever the reason, it’s a real pity because the Golden Curry used to be something special. Back in the good old days, each dish was distinct and had a flavour distinguishable from other curries on the menu. However, now everything I order tastes bland and comes in yellow. I’m convinced the ubiquitous yellow hue that all their curries now have comes from the use of far too much turmeric in nearly everything that I order. Why do I keep eating here, you ask? Well, to my continued surprise, my family still enjoy the cooking here so whenever we order a takeaway curry as a family, I go along with their request for a Golden Curry (begrudgingly) because it’s logistically simpler than ordering mine from a different restaurant. Side dishes like the rice and samosas are not bad, and the Bombay potatoes are still pretty good. However, none of this is any better than you’d get in a supermarket Indian takeaway line. Plus, they’re more expensive. I ordered through the food delivery service Just Eat and our food arrived in only 30 minutes, instead of the estimated 50 minutes. However, I’d prefer it if they took the full 50-minutes to prepare a better curry. This restaurant used to be Golden because of the superior quality of its food. Now, it’s just overuse of turmeric that makes their curries Golden.
