This review hurts me very much as I know the owners for almost 20 years. I visited the establishment when I first moved to the area in 2002; but the rejuvenated after some quite unfortunate incidents with bad service in and around 2010. The company began to work younger and younger servers that did not seem to understand customer service that I often consider as a lost art form. I would visit the company regularly because I had adjusted my expectations accordingly. Slowly afterwards, I would stop visiting the facility, picking other sushi places in the area or going my orders to order to avoid the underwhelming customer service. I left the area temporarily in 2020 and returned 2022. I decided to give Good Choice Sushi another shot, and I was surprised that I received good customer service and good sushi; but that didn't last long. The most regrettable thing was that the Sushi Church controls the establishment. For some reason, the institution did not seem to have an actual manager, but to leave the leadership tasks to the Sushi Church, which was very regrettable and many of them were quite rude and ugly. The straw that broke back the camels was after I visited Good Choice Sushi after a short break. There were only 2 servers on one of their sushi roll nights. Of course, you expect some delays when the specials run unlike the nights I would cancel any specials there as I visited the establishment on a frequent basis, either Friday or Saturday and either a Monday or Wednesday. I was a good patron and I'm tipping well, so I expect a good customer service. This night, however, the server was what we call in the restaurant business in the weeds, but in such cases, adjustments must be made for bad personnel. I ordered some sushi rolls on special with some cutting rolls. I tried to order the server's attention several times before the 9:00 cut for the sushi roll specials as well as some additional cutting rolls; but the sushi cook refused to accept the order that advised the server that it was over the deadline. The server was experienced so that it was for the customer and for the fact that it was their fault, because the facility was understaffed and she was the one who did not come to the table, despite my repeated attempts to attract their attention for over 15 minutes. That was the last time I visited Good Choice Sushi in Laguna Niguel. That was about 4 months ago. The funny thing is many of us locals to this institution have in common Good Choice Sushi in Laguna Niguel as: Good Choice? Is that it? Super beaten. After all the great reviews, I decided to try Good Choice Sushi. Unfortunately, I was very disappointed. I ordered 2 reels in the afternoon. At first they didn't answer the phone. Then when they answered, I was told it would be ready for 35-45 minutes for the roles. When I arrived, the roles were not prepared. There were no customers in the restaurant, so the only reason I can think of for the delay would the staff be too late and were unprepared to food in the time they opened. I ordered a crispy role and a happy special role.. The Happy Specialty Roll was definitely not all that fresh. It had a fishy taste. A bite and I was there. I pulled into the cripple roll. After entering the first piece I realized that the shrimps were not boiled. Very disappointed. I was really looking forward to a sushi restaurant on the street from my house.
This place is not only fabulous, but DELICIOUS! Always very picky where I don't disappoint my sushi and this place. You?ve ALWAYS got my order right no matter how much I order or what I replace and they always remember to put my additional page of spicy Mayo in the pocket. It's quite the only restaurant where I can tell them on the phone that I'll never forget a page of spicy Mayo and it's always in the bag. You're always so beautiful and the sushi is always SO FRESH! 2. favorite sushi place of all places I was.
I've heard good things about this place for years. Finally, the opportunity had to go and it was not disappointed. Started with miso soup and edamame, both big. Then I got the kalikimaka role and the spicy tuna reel. Both were absolutely delicious. I definitely go back. This will be a regular place for me.
