Hirschen - Tisch reservieren

Good looking terrace and menu made us walk inside Hotel Restaurant Hirsch on a Saturday evening. The tone of the evening was quickly set when the waitress asked (better: commanded) us to wait for her to clean a table where we could sit while murmuring...she will never want to work here again ? Once having made our choice for a lamb and beef entrecote, the waiter strongly suggested us to choose for the stein option (grilling your meat yourself), to which we politely asked to keep it to the traditional option and leaving it to the chef to cook our meat. After attempts from our side, the waiter ordered the stein option anyway on his iPad, not paying any attention to our remarks. Was it a way to overcharge us? Or because the kitchen was almost closing? No idea, but I have never experienced such an attitude from a waiter. If only this "house special" as the waiter named it was fantastic, I could have lived with it. But we eat our meat baked bleu/saignant, so the baking stone had absolutely no added value as the meat was already perfectly cooked. On the contrary, we payed bucks extra for a cheap feeling of a "gourmet" with obsolete sauces and presentation (cocktail sauce, melon, pineapple, and plastic children birthday palm trees!?! Overall: heavily overpriced, felt abused as a tourist, with the worst service we have seen in a long time. My star out of will go to the meat quality, which was the only positive note of the evening

Gastof Hirschen is one of the better places to eat if you're staying in Matten. The restaurant is part of a hotel; while we didn't stay at the hotel we ate breakfast here everyday they had a nice buffet that served eggs, meats, cereals,...cheese etc for a reasonable price. The staff was very accommodating and pleasant. We also ate a lunch and dinner here. They have an outdoor seating which was open for lunch, however, because we were there in September and evenings were colder we sat indoors. For lunch we had a soup, fondue and rosti served with calf's liver in a brown sauce. All of the dishes were good and prompted me to visit again for dinner multiple times. Once I had carrot soup with honey, ginger and shrimps the soup was quite unique and tasty. The other time I opted for veal cordon blue with local ham and cheese. This too was well made with a crisp coating and tender veal. The time I ate venison served with red cabbage, vegetables, chestnuts and spatzli served with a homemade apple sauce. All of the dishes were quite nice and I would recommend Hirschen to anyone for breakfast, lunch and dinner

While in Interlaken, we were looking for an authentic Swiss restaurant, as the town has an over abundance of Indian restaurants, we found his place to offer the most delicious Rosti dishes and Fondu, and sweet servers! You must go here as the decor is...a Swiss chalet, but we sat out in the garden because the weather was warm. A must if you are in Interlaken

This is our third meal we enjoyed at the Hirschen. Nice outdoor garden under the wine pergola. Good variety menu with a daily menu special as well. Wine by bottle or open wine by the glass. Friendly service and truly good quality food

It is a beautiful hotel with attentive staff, a short walk only from Interlaken. There is the possibility of eating outside in good weather. The proximity of the busy road is the only drawback to this excellent hotel
