In a word, Homestead is disappointing. They try and there is great potential, but they don 't live up to the promise and pretense. It is the basic small details that are missing, such as a warm Manhattan with no cherry, a table not being set despite a reservation, having to ask for silverware. For the price, the ingredients are skimpy. The haddock dish served with scallops and shrimp comes with half a scallop cut in two and two small shrimp. The salmon with risotto was served with white rice we are out of risotto, would you like extra green beans? Don 't even try the artichoke dip as a starter...soupy mayo-based sauce with a few pieces of artichoke and strands of spinach thrown in. Parsimonious is another word that comes to mind to describe Homestead.
One of the nicest vibes in the area is marred by consistently inattentive service. The waitstaff are friendly and pleasant but my experience over the last two years is that once your order is placed you won’t see anyone again for a long time. No check-in to see how the food is, no offer of water with your drink. If something is wrong with your order you’ll have to work hard to get someone’s attention or else be prepared to get up from your table to approach a hostess or waitstaff. As I write this I’m experiencing this again as usual and listening to the party at the next table complain about the same thing. Again, friendly staff but simply not attentive to your dining experience. More training needed.
