Hostellerie Schwendi

When you enter to this sleepy town you for the first few minutes you will becsurprised how few people are on the street and how many cars are parked in and out of the town gates. Just get in the restaurant and you will see where all people are hiding! Please order the food and you will see why. It seems the God of food hides in the town kitchens luring lost trawlers and experienced locals into his sellers. All courses were absolutely magnificent. My personal favourite is foiegrass for starter, beef cooked in red wine for main and cream brûlée to end The pleasure. My wife’s fish was also delicious so I could not help myself to try it. By all means the restaurant is highly recommended. Michelin stars are well deserved!

The food here was decent but not great, the real issue was the dining room and the manager. We were required to be seated in a dimly lit and poorly decorated dining room by the manager, not the well decorated and serviced dining room that was reserved for hotel guests it was an insult, especially because there was open seating in the good dining room. I would avoid.

One of just two restaurants in the medieval town of Keintzheim Schwendl offers a good choice of predominantly Alscatien dishes and a choice oof set menus. The food is well prepared and wholesome and accompanied by a short local wine list. Service is friendly and we had a very nice evening with a group of wine colleagues.

Unexpected quality Upon recommendation of our trusted winemaker nearby we expected a local alsacien restaurant. Given the nice medieval setting of the table close to the village’s fountain and the quality of the food and wine pairing, this is a clear recommendation!

We stopped in Kientzheim for a night when travelling around Alsace, and found the restaurant purely by coincident.
