Idlewyld Inn Restaurant

We had to replan our August fairly last minute, moving the venue from Cambridge to London. A family member suggested holding a dinner for our guests at the Idlewyld; despite having lived in London most of my life, it was a place I...was unfamiliar with. We met with Effie about a month or so before our wedding. She was so helpful in helping us envision how we could have a COVID-safe dinner with our friends and family. On the day of the wedding, we arrived at the Idlewyld around taking some pictures around their beautiful grounds. The staff had set up beautiful, socially distanced tables for us, accommodating all of our different 'bubbles' on the front porch and in the wine cellar (we had hoped for all of us to be in the back patio, but rain threatened all day). The food was amazing we chose one appetizer (Cesar salad), two entrees (chicken and steak), and one dessert (creme brulee). Several guests mentioned it was one of the best meals they have had in a long time. Unfortunately, the creme brulee hadn't set, but the kitchen had chocolate cheesecake waiting in the wings, which made our guests very happy. The service was even better. I was absolutely blown away by how attentive and thoughtful the servers on the front porch and in the wine cellar were. There was never an empty glass or dirty dish sitting around. They made each and every guest feel special, and that meant the world to us. Although we were disappointed our original wedding plans in Cambridge had fallen through due to COVID, the Idlewyld made us wish we had just planned our wedding dinner here all along! Several of our guests (including locals) decided to stay overnight at the Idlewyld. My husband and I had the honeymoon suite, which was a beautiful, spacious room with the most comfortable bed. I didn't see any of the other rooms, but heard they were all uniquely decorated and comfortable all of our guests were very happy with their stay. The front desk/reservation staff were helpful every time we spoke with them. Breakfast was included in the morning there were several options to choose from (all delicious), which you could take in their dining areas or pay an extra fee for room service. Overall, our wedding experience at the Idlewyld was absolutely unforgettable. I would recommend it to anyone. We plan on returning for dinner, brunch, and even an overnight getaway soon!

Had the perfect combination of great brunch and great service. Started with warm pastries. My partner had the mushroom pastry as his appetizer while I chose the beef carpacio. The presentation was excellent as you can see. I loved the light lemon dressing on the...greens as well as the caperberries. Very tasty. The beef was rare and tender which I thoroughly enjoyed. The generous bite of mushroom and pastry that my partner shared tasted like comfort food, melting in my mouth. I ordered the sole as the entree at the recommendation of the server and I was not disappointed. It was very tender, served on top of gnocchi. The greens had a light dressing. The combination was very flavourful. My partner ordered the vegetarian frittata and said it was great. A cold day in March offset with a warm delicious brunch!

I had the lentil Wellington after being told that the waiter wouldn't touch it with a ten-foot pole but that customers seemed to like it. Please tell the cook to find the salt--this was one of the most bland and tasteless dishes that I have...ever had. The lemon sorbet was quite good, but would have preferred the creme brûlée that the waiter gleefully told me was "not ready yet" (odd that it's not ready for a regular-time meal). All in all, it's an okay restaurant but certainly not fine dining. I wouldn't go back.

This was both mine and my wife's first time here and it won't be our last. The food was out of this world. I have to say, what made this a truly unique dining experience was our server Katherine. her fun personality made the night...that much more enjoyable. Her knowledge of the menu was amazing and she made us feel like we were the only people in the restaurant. Thanks for a great evening Katherine!!

what a wonderful meal and a wonderful stay amazing menu, wonderful staff, food so tasty it all but jumps in your mouth.
