France is especially wonderful in placing superb restaurants in the middle of nowhere. Well, to be fair, it is not nowhere, but a pleasant pastoral setting. There is extraordinary detail in the placement of flowers, shrubs, plants, big bay windows-and a lovely patio next to a very ancient tree. This is fine dining at a fairly high price point. If you can foot the tab, you will find it a very pleasant place. There is a very large young staff that make up for finesse with earnestness. The chef is out and about making sure all is running well. I am mindful that we just paid twice as much for a Sunday lunch as we did for a Saturday Dinner in Romans. In music, sports, and professions, as you go up the pyramid, the views are more sensational, the style the more subtle and the price rises. There is some sensational cooking here if you can afford it. A rather extensive wine list allows one to indulge in a wide range of fine wines, especially from Burgundy and the Cote du Rhone-but don't expect any bargains. There is creativity, quality and finesse here-all in very pleasant surroundings. If you want a memorable day in the country, away from Lyon, and near its airport, keep this address in mind.
