While I am a very picky person when it comes to my sushi..... Meaning that I do not care how everything is adorned or set up there are certain things that I would not eat and others that I will happily munch on..... my thought is: things that I would not put in my mouth in a regular restaurant, I would definitely wont be ordering on a specialty/ethnic eatery. This brings me to the point that Specialty Japanese restaurant tend to have a need to surprise the customer with crawling, swiveling animals that as far as I am concerned should not be part of meal. This is no different..... there are plenty of those things that I do not eat.... but at the same time here they are able to bring new palatable delicacies combining all the other more traditional/normal options and all this in a very professional, unique and exquisite offering. This is what clearly takes KBK to the next level, covering all angles and having ample resources to entice all walks of life to fall in love with their menu.... Everyone may participate , feel like they belong .... think for a moment that you are finally a japanese food gourmand ....... and never feel excluded from the pretty exotic presentations that normally go hand in hand with the more reptilian/bottom crawler offerings at these luxury eateries. The place is envolved in a delicate inviting ambiance suitable for all occasions from dates to be impressed to celebrations and business meetings. Wait staff is uber professional Pricing, well let 's just say this is a place where you will pay dearly but you will get your money 's worth. If you are on a budget, do not go to KBK Would I return, yes KBK is a destination point. Worth going , enjoying and feeding yourself the top Japanese food in Madrid and surrounding areas.

I went recently with my wife to Kabutokaji for the first time for a birthday celebration. On arrival we were offered a complimentary glass of champagne each to celebrate, which i thought was a very classy gesture. The maitre d was very helpful helping us navigate the menu and giving advice whilst the service was extremely attentive without being overbearing. This is a Japanese restaurant but for example the gyoza de temporada was served in a clay tagine pot and the meat inside the gyoza had the flavour of a wonderful tagine with cinammon and other spices. Next we had sea bream tempura which i think was my favourite. After that, the tamaki of sweetbreads kebab style was both unusual and wonderful at the same time. Lastly we had tuna teriyaki which was also very good. For dessert we had roka 3 textures of chocolate that was served with a birthday candle on top. Regarding wine, we chose a wine from Mallorca (26 euros) but there were many other options around the same price level. Of course they had much more expensive wines if you wanted. I read in one of the other reviews of this restaurant that complained it was a bit pricey. That is true but i would say that kabutokaji is a wonderful eating experience with very attentive service and would highly recommend it especially for a special occasion.

In all my years of dining out in different restaurants around the world, I have NEVER come across what can only be described as; the most aggressive, rude and bad mannered service by none other than the owner!!! I witnessed several ladies sat at a table nearby be spoken to in the most appalling and outrageous manner. The owner (by her own admission) of the restaurant was intimidating, pointing her finger at the diners, towering over them and verbally abusing her clients. The argument seemed to stem from a miscommunication by the restaurant (which she refused to acknowledge), where they failed to inform their clients during the booking service, that they had to vacate the table by a certain time... The whole incident was very badly and poorly handled by the owner and it beggars belief that the owner of such a restaurant would talk to her clients in such a fashion. In the end the ladies left without dining and were chased out by the angry, shouting owner. Her staff stood to one side in disbelief at her behaviour! Although the food was lovely, it was a shame it was spoilt by the very large angry woman with a serious lack of etiquette. I'm not sure I will be returning under the circumstances. A course in anger management and client relations wouldn’t go amiss!!!

We expected a lot more. The experience was bland and boring. Food didn’t say anything. Flavors didn’t express themselves at all in the plates. Presentation was static and without personality. Soup was served in plastic cups (which is deplorable for such a restaurant), part of the crockery was branded for publicity purposes, and the tables had a bottle of wine they were also marketing (which is not in line with such a restaurant). There was just nothing that was worth it. If it was a road side inn, it would maybe be worth it (and just maybe), but for such a restaurant you just wonder what they are doing and why.
