Stayed here for one night with friends. We ate in the pub. Halibut was delicious, as was the squabbit pie. We found it strange that the bar did not have any vodka on a Saturday night??? We booked 4 double rooms and they varied in size from cosy to a large room with a seating area. I paid for the rooms and food drinks before we left the pub on Saturday evening. We wanted an early start as we had far to travel As we checked out the following morining, I was accosted by a member of staff and told there was still a food and drink bill to be settled. Food and drinks had been added to one of our rooms after we left the pub. I felt rather embarrassed infront of my friends as I was picking up all of the bills and for everything. Luckily I had kept the receipt to prove that we had paid for 7 meals plus drinks. nearly£300 In essence, good food and comfortable rooms. Just check what is charged to your room.
We have started to travel to the King’s Arms as an annual pilgrimage to a relaxing, special place with incredible food, hospitality and rooms. We have just returned from this year’s trip very full and chilled. I’m nice again we have been looked after so well. The food is the best we’ve ever had. So much care and attention put into the menu and ingredients. Hospitality is the best as well. We messed up quite a bit this time with bookings but we were looked after and finally managed a superb stay. For us, this overnight stay with the evening meal and breakfast is like being tucked up in your favourite blanket and fed your favourite food! Pure indulgence. We will be back next year .! Before if we can!
Arrived with a party of 9 to what looked like an empty pub. Only to be very rudely told by the lady front of house we would have to wait approximately an hour to put a food order in. She then changed their mind and said if we could give our choices immediately we would be served. Food was good. But how we were spoken to was not acceptable. We could overhear another couple being treated the same way. When we came to pay we had to call out to get the bar man to come to the bar. Never been spoken to as rudely when out paying for a service. The front of house lady seemed to think this was fine and how she spoke to the waitress and other customers was similar. We will not be returning.
The Kings Arms is a gem even in this wonderfully blessed locality with many great pubs to choose from. Less famous than the Olive Branch and others perhaps but equally as good in my view.. The food is a consistent high standard and the pub itself is a lovely welcome wrap around experience, especially in the winter... The menus are great, varied, all home cooked, not microwaved factory options.. Game is usually featured and of special note are the Christmas pre- ordered lunches/dinners.. Try them they are truly great with all courses catered for with impossible amounts of food.. We usually finish it off on Boxing day..
