I took my partner to this restaurant for her birthday dinner having first heard about it on Rick Stein’s BBC series “Secret France”. What a discovery! First, the location. The restaurant is a chalet and authentic former farmhouse situated in a quite remote location at the end of a mountain road around 5km from the village of Rochejean. If you are coming from the direction of Lausanne and you’re using Waze, do NOT follow directions unless they take you through Rochejean they will take you up a steep single lane farm track which eventually becomes a dirt track and then a steep mountainside. By the time we discovered this there was nowhere to turn round and we ended up stuck in the snow in the middle of nowhere. We eventually freed ourselves and reached the restaurant via the village of Rochejean. The restaurant is full of charm and retains its character as a former farmhouse. The menu is authentic rural French cuisine at its very best, using local produce. The restaurant produces much of its own ingredients foie gras, liqueurs and the meat is cooked in the dining area over a wood burning grill. We had home produced foie gras for entrée followed by fillet steak topped with pan seared foie gras flambéed in Calvados. For dessert we chose the signature tarte aux myrtilles. The food was truly exceptional the steak in particular melted in the mouth, and the grilled foie gras complimented it perfectly. This, coupled with the outstanding and friendly service, made the whole experience exceptional. Vegetarians are well catered for too, with a great selection of salads. La Boissaude also has an outstanding variety of liqueurs, including some that are home produced. In summary, we can recommend La Boissaude without hesitation. Go! (but make sure you go via the road from Rochejean!

Perfect for what we wanted... local mountain food well prepared... the only thing that annoyed us were the flies... but what do you expect when the restaurant is next to an alpine pasture full of cows? We chose the cancoillotte. The cheese itself we found a bit bland, but the ham was absolutely excellent, and the open fire cooked potatoes just added to the rustic flavour. Add local alcohol, and the house special dessert, and the meal was fantastic. Would happily eat here again, but maybe with a fly repellent!

Went here with for dinner. The place was full of flies. Flies on your food, face and feet! I would survive the flies but then they brought the receipt. We paid 20 euros for a small bottle of white wine, 4 euros for two small potatoes and the list goes on and on. We expected a cosy, reasonably priced place with an nice ambience. We got a table next to the door and kids screaming like monkeys. Would NOT recommend!

The Côte de Bœuf Charolaise is the BEST steak we have ever eaten! Rare is the way to go as it was cooked perfectly over the open fire and delivered to the table on a sizzling hot cast iron dish. We enjoyed a nice bottle of wine and finished the dinner by sharing their delicious profiteroles. The staff are wonderful and we look forward to seeing them again soon!
