So, we arrived at Chalon en Champagne on a rainy Monday evening, booked into our hotel and decided to go out for a meal, most of the restaurants were closed on a Monday but we found La Bourse which stays open until 2am. We ordered an aperitif consisting of a rather delicious glass of Champagne, they brought mine but not my husbands', when his finally came his glass was a lot smaller than mine, never mind we decided. We ordered duck as our main meal which looked suspiciously like beef and a nice bottle of wine which only appeared after I asked where it was. The poor male waiter was rushing around seeing to all the customers, we felt forgotten (not the waiter's fault), all in all a very disappointing evening!
Decent size terrace and well decorated, comfortable interior with A/C, which was appreciated as it was 28c outside. The food was OK and the choice varied. The service was slow and we often had to remind the waiter several times for simple things like olive oil and more water. It's centrally located with parking nearby. It was fine for what we needed at lunchtime but nothing of particular interest
Had the salmon tartare which was delicious followed by a decent steak. My partner had the 3 course 25 Euro menu which was also good though his steak was a little small. We enjoyed the meal and the evening though the waiter service was a little erratic at times. Would definitely go back if we happen to be in the area.
I have never had a worse meal in France. Everything came with frites. No green vegetables, fish, overcooked smothered in glutenous sauce. Tough overcooked steak, slimey, tasteless carpaccio. Loud music and TV videos dominated interior.
