La Brasserie du Lavoir

The setting looks like it would be great and several years ago I ate a good ice cream here so i thought I'd treat my partner and I to a meal out and visit the gardens etc. We were told to arrive late due to another function-only to find they were smack in the middle of very large function and service. The starter was fine. Having waited over an hour for the main-I ended up having to chase it..still no main..until the moment you all dread (threatening to go!) Then the main arrived..it was disgusting..fries that were swimming in oil-cheap cut of meat with horrible taste (described as local Charolais! ) Sorry but if you make a customer wait-at least serve them a something worth the wait. Poor service. Very expensive for the level of cuisine..which was one big let down. Starter fine, pudding eaten by now with bad grace as if were not for my partner..I would have just walked out. Never again! They waved the coffee. I paid in cash. As I was leaving the other server who had neglected us (was pulled off to serve the large function) actually had the brass neck to ask if I had paid (which I just had! and had been given the coffee for free due to poor service) Anyone can accept that on a busy day-service can be delayed. But they messed up in every way

The main problem with this brasserie is the management. Location is great, the serving staff are helpful, service is on time and the food is of reasonable quality, but the management is bizarre. We had finished our meal and wanted to pay the bill, but clearly the waitress was not allowed to deal with money. She gave the bill to another person, who took it upstairs. Several minutes later, the owner's wife waddled slowly downstairs, came behind the counter, washed her hands, apologised for the delay, then said to the waitress "Where is the bill?". The waitress pointed out that she had sent it upstairs to her. "Oh, I must have put it down somewhere." Another person was sent upstairs to fetch it. A few minutes later he came down empty handed. Only then did she ask the waitress "What did they have?" Having been told, she worked out the bill correctly. This process took about 15 minutes, during the whole of which time the owner was sitting by himself a few feet away from where we were standing and never said a word nor tried to help.We'll try the Carpe Frite or perhaps "Au Petit Chez Soi" in Neuvy le Barrois next time.

We had a lovely lunch here before visiting the Parc Floral.The setting was stunning ,tables in the garden, under parasol. Beautiful flowers and a friendly waitress. We had the pate De frois gras and the smoked salmon with cream cheese on blini .Both presented with wonderful berries and salad. I had the duck with blackcurrant sauce and my husband the pave steak with girolles. Both cooked to perfection. Dessert we both went with tarte pomme with glace. A glass of Rose and a beer, water came to 71 euros , very good for such a delicious meal .

Visited after looking round the gardens at Apremont which were superb. We had fruit tea as it was all they had, one of us had a crepe, and the bill came to forty pounds for six. We thought it was extortionate.

The food was fine. We all had salads. The lettuce could have been fresher but the service was good, prices okay and the wine was lovely!
