This is such a lovely place. To start at the beginning, the first time we went here for dinner this summer I spoke to the restaurant manager about my food intolerances (onions and garlic) and how this limits choice for me. Right! He said. Just give us 4 days’ notice and you can have anything you want. So I do. And I can. Pure heaven. Their gratineed oysters, normally so garlicky, for me come with a non garlic herby lemony butter. Glorious. The tartare of salmon and avocado comes for me without shallots. Fabulous. The scallops and mash with that strong meat jus comes for me with a jus made without onions or garlic. Amazing. You get the picture. They are lovely, and wonderfully accommodating. And it is such a lovely place to be. And we have a new habit 4 days before we want to dine we go to their wonderful bar and have a cocktail whilst ordering my next meal. When I mentioned to a member of staff how wonderful they are she said but it is normal! No, I am afraid it is not. So few restaurants are prepared to go out of their way like this. Maison du Bassin, you are exceptional. I thank you so much.

Tucked just around the corner from the beach, this hotel and restaurant has a beautiful setting and slightly 1920s ambience. For a Saturday lunch we had a starter of salmon tartare which sat on top of the freshest, just ripe avocado divine. I had crevette linguini for my main course. Plenty of meaty prawns and an unctuous sauce. The pasta looked home made. Very filling! My companion had the sea bass (comes filleted or not, your choice) which she said was really lovely, with mash that she said was wonderful proper job sieved and creamy. We opted for a double portion of haricots verts at 7 euros each a mistake as one would have done between is. They were buttery and fresh, perhaps with a hint of garlic. We were the only Brits there and I fancied our service was not as good as that given to the French others who came after us had had their meals and gone, while we still sat there. This is not cheap but is good value, given the ambience, food quality and relaxed atmosphere. The wine starts from low twenties to much more. Puzzling that there seemed only one loo, and it was quite low.

My wife and i enjoyed our best meal on Lege Cap Ferret here. While the restaurant is perhaps best known for it dessert table, we enjoyed everything about the dining experience. The food was great...as expected, but our waitress was the best. We know some french but she made time to explain each dish to us and patiently answer our questions. Back to the dessert table. Definitely leave room to try several desserts.

Unlike the awful Père Ouvrard opposite, here you get your money's worth. The cadre is really quite chic as are the clients rather like a Poirot adventure. The food is excellent and I only wish we could have gone more than once it was understandably fully booked for the following week. Easily the best in its class in Cap Ferret which is not hard admittedly.
