"We stumbled upon l’Abri whilst cycling through the area. We did not eat as it was just a coffee and pit stop but the proprietor was very welcoming, clearly a character as is the decor. It is worth a visit just for the decor and myriad artefacts, splendid!"

We arrived towards the end of lunch time but the owner/chef greeted us warmly and said we could eat. He offered us the lunch menu (looked reasonable but several items sold out, as I say we were latish arriving). He could offer croque monsieur and do an assiette de charcuterie for me (as I am gluten free). The family all chose the croque monsieur. We had 5 croque monsieur in total, the charcuterie for me and 3 chocolate mousses. Plus two coffees and one bottle of water. Total bill 117 Euros yes 117 euros. It was 14 euros per croque monsieur (yes, that's a cheese and ham toastie basically) my charcuterie was 15 euros, chocolate mousses were 7 euros each and water was 7 euros plus 2 euros each for a couple of coffees. Not surprised we were greated warmly and fed. Absolutely ridiculous. The 3 course set menu was only 16 or 17 euros for a starter and main course and a pudding or cheese. Elsewhere croque monsieur ranged from 3 7 euros so not sure where these bonkers prices came from. The Chef was friendly enough but then at these prices he can afford to be. Needless to say I will not be going back.

Stopped there randomly as we did not want to eat at Autoroute A13 eateries. Just a couple of miles from it is the town of Gaillon. Chose the restaurant because we saw it was doing a brisk business with what appeared to be locals. We were seated outside. The owner who speaks very little english was most polite. Prices were very reasonable and food was excellent. It was 6 of us and all were happy with the meals. The desserts were homemade by the owner and were all delicious. As a finishing touch, the owner brought us a complimentary Calvados for those who wanted an after meal drink. Most thoughtful. Taking everything into account, a great random find. Our compliments to the man that own/runs the place!

We stopped by for a quick lunch on the way to Paris. There was only prix-fixe menus available, one for 25eur, and other for 30eur. The first included appetizer, main course and dessert, while the 30eur menu also had a cheese course. We chose 25eur menu, plus two glasses of wine. The bill arrived for 79 euros ! . We realized we were charged for the 30eur menu. When we pointed that out to the waitress/owner, she said nothing and proceeded to swipe our card. We feel they have stolen money from us, without blinking an eye. Food is mediocre and the place is full of local farmers on Sunday. Avoid.

Very popular with locals, very welcoming, friendly diners, excellent food drink. We had the €16.90 menu with charcuterie followed by confit duck steak, but everything we saw looked equally delicious. The homemade desserts are delicious. Open mon-sat lunch plus fri sat eves, closed all day wed.
