"Having travelling to the region of Aveyron many times, it is by far, one of the best restaurants I have been to. Note: No walk-ins! Reservations are a must! They are closed Mondays and Tuesdays! From the U.S., call 011-335-65-72-89-15. There is also a large hall for events, banquets, reunions, etc. You will be greeted by Peter and his wife (Peter is of Belgian origin). If you are a beer fanatic, he will serve one of the best varieties of Belgian beer I have ever had. These beers are head and shoulder above any German or Dutch beers I 've tasted. Plus the food is excellent, fresh, natural, from local suppliers. The view of the rolling hills from this restaurant is amazing. The peace and quiet and rural surroundings are unbelievable. It is a little out of the way but I guarantee you will not regret it."

Unusual food and surroundings in rural France, close to St Cyprien on the side of the valley above the village. Worth seeking out, including for vegetarians. It is necessary to make a reservation for a meal, although not for the bar. If you are vegetarian, say when you book and you will get an excellent meal. The setting is a large barn on the site of an old manor farm. Beautifully converted by the owner retaining the original beams and other features, with a large picture window at one end of the restaurant, with long views out over the fields. Inside, there are pieces of restored old farm machinery, including a wooden thresher and flax cutter, and the owner will explain them to you if you are interested. There is also a very sunny terrace, with similar views. The food is based around cooking done on your own hot stones at the table (and the stones are frequently refreshed as they cool), but extends to far more than this. We cooked vegetable burgers (of three varieties), with mushrooms and courgettes, on the stones, but also had four different salads and marinated vegetables and an aubergine gratin. There was a dressed courgette dish, cucumber marinated in lemon and olive oil, a tomato and red onion salsa and a green salad with a variety of perfectly ripe tomatoes. There was also aligot: a local Aveyronnaise dish of very rich silky mashed potatoes with cheese and garlic, again re-heated for us when it had cooled without us having to ask for it. We started with a delicious vegetable soup (just nature prepared, apparently) and finished with a dessert of apples from the garden cooked in lightly spiced red wine and served with ice cream and caramel sauce. The food is seasonal, so changes through the year. We ate vegetarian food, which was excellent, but there is also meat to cook on the stones for those who want it. The bar specialises in a wide range of beers, including Belgian fruit beers and other dark and light beers. We can recommend the peach beer, even if you don't usually drink beer. Service is attentive and friendly, with the meal proceeding at a very relaxed pace which was necessary to allow time for all that food! The owner speaks French, English, German and Flemish and will happily converse with you in any of these languages. The children went for a stroll around outside to look at the lizards before dessert. We were all made to feel very welcome. It is a perfect place for a leisurely meal. We hope to visit again.
